AK-ERNi-1 Pure Nickel TIG Rod for Nickel Alloys and Dissimilar Welding.

A pure nickel type argon gas shielded TIG rod with titanium addition to reduce porosity, offering stable arc and excellent weld metal fluidity for high-quality joints.

Welding Wire

Product Overview

AK-ERNi-1 is a pure nickel type argon gas shielded TIG rod designed for welding industrial pure nickel forgings and castings, including ASTM B160, B161, B162, B163, UNS N02200, and UNS N02201. It is also suitable for dissimilar welding between nickel alloys and stainless steel, and for surface buildup welding.

The addition of titanium in the composition reduces the likelihood of porosity during welding. The rod delivers a stable arc, excellent weld metal fluidity, and a smooth, attractive bead appearance, which supports consistent weld quality across various joint types.

Application: Suitable for welding of industrial pure nickel forging and casting, such as 200, 201nickel alloy, nickel coated steel plate,ASTM B160,B161,B162.B163 and UNS N02200 and N02201.can also be used for dissimilar steel welding between ni ckel alloy and stainless steel and surface buildup welding.

Key Benefits

Reduced Porosity with Titanium Addition.

The 2.0-3.5% titanium content helps minimize the formation of blow holes during welding, improving the integrity of the weld deposit.

Stable Arc and Smooth Bead.

The rod provides a stable arc during TIG welding, resulting in a clean, well-formed bead with minimal spatter and good surface finish.

Excellent Weld Metal Fluidity.

High fluidity of the molten weld metal ensures good fusion and easy filling of the joint, especially in fillet and groove welds.

Suitable for Dissimilar and Buildup Welding.

Effective for joining nickel alloys to stainless steel and for surface repair or buildup applications where high corrosion resistance is required.

Where It Is Used

  • Welding of industrial pure nickel forgings and castings (e.g., 200, 201 nickel alloys)
  • Joining nickel-coated steel plates.
  • Dissimilar welding between nickel alloys and stainless steel.
  • Surface buildup welding for repair or wear resistance.

Who It Is For

  • Welding consumable distributors supplying nickel alloy welding materials.
  • Fabricators and repair shops working with nickel alloys and coated steels.
  • Maintenance teams handling equipment exposed to corrosive environments.

Problems It Solves

  • Porosity in welds caused by gas entrapment during welding of pure nickel materials.
  • Poor weld metal flow and irregular bead appearance in TIG welding of nickel alloys.
  • Difficulty in achieving consistent fusion and appearance when joining dissimilar metals.

Use Guide

  • Select the appropriate diameter based on joint thickness and welding position. Use clean, dry shielding gas (argon) and ensure the base metal is free of oil, grease, and oxides before welding.
  • Maintain a consistent arc length and travel speed to achieve uniform bead appearance and avoid overheating.
  • Clean the weld area and surrounding surfaces thoroughly before welding to prevent contamination.
  • Store the rod in a dry environment and avoid prolonged exposure to humid conditions to prevent moisture absorption.

How It Compares

AK-ERNi-1 is a pure nickel TIG rod with titanium addition, designed for improved porosity resistance and weldability. It differs from standard ERNi-1 rods by the inclusion of titanium, which enhances stability and reduces blow holes. It is not intended for high-temperature service above 500°C. For applications requiring higher strength or different alloying elements, other nickel-based filler metals may be more suitable.
