AK-ERCuMnNiAl TIG / MIG Wire for Corrosion-Resistant Overlay on Iron-Casting and Low-Alloy Steel.

A copper-based filler metal with high manganese, aluminum, and nickel content, designed for overlay welding where resistance to corrosion and wear is critical.

Welding Wire

Product Overview

AK-ERCuMnNiAl (TIG / MIG) is a copper-based welding wire formulated for overlay welding on iron-casting and low-alloy steel components requiring enhanced corrosion resistance. It is suitable for both TIG and MIG welding processes.

The wire meets EN ISO 24373 CuMn13Al8Fe3Ni2 and AWS A5.7 ERCuMnNiAl GB/T 9460 CuMn13Al8Fe3Ni2 standards, ensuring consistent composition and performance across applications.

Its chemical composition includes 7.0-8.5% aluminum, 11.0-14.0% manganese, 1.50-3.0% nickel, and 2.0-4.0% iron, with lead limited to ≤0.02% and silicon at 0.10%.

The deposited metal has a solidus temperature of 945℃ and a liquidus temperature of 985℃, with a density of 7.4 kg/dm³, tensile strength between 800-900 N/mm², elongation of 10%, and Brinell hardness of 180-240 HB.

Application: Best for the overlay welding of iron-casting and low-alloy steel that especially need corrosion resistance.

Key Benefits

High Corrosion Resistance in Overlay Applications.

The combination of aluminum, nickel, and manganese in the wire creates a protective surface layer on iron-casting and low-alloy steel, improving resistance to corrosive environments.

Stable Weld Pool with Controlled Solidification.

With a solidus temperature of 945℃ and liquidus temperature of 985℃, the wire provides a predictable solidification range, reducing the risk of cracking during overlay deposition.

Good Mechanical Properties in Deposited Metal.

The deposited weld metal achieves tensile strength between 800-900 N/mm² and elongation of 10%, offering a balance of strength and ductility suitable for service under mechanical stress.

Low Impurity Levels for Clean Welds.

Lead is limited to ≤0.02%, silicon to 0.10%, and zinc to ≤0.15%, minimizing the risk of hot cracking and ensuring a clean, sound weld bead.

Where It Is Used

  • Overlay welding on iron-casting components exposed to corrosive media.
  • Reinforcement of low-alloy steel surfaces in chemical or marine environments.
  • Repair and build-up of wear-prone areas on industrial machinery parts.
  • Welding applications requiring a combination of corrosion resistance and moderate mechanical strength.

Who It Is For

  • Welding consumable distributors supplying specialty filler metals for industrial repair and maintenance.
  • Fabricators and repair shops working with iron-casting and low-alloy steel in aggressive service environments.
  • Maintenance teams responsible for extending the life of components in corrosive or high-wear conditions.

Problems It Solves

  • Achieving corrosion resistance in overlay welds on iron-casting and low-alloy steel without compromising mechanical integrity.
  • Sourcing a single filler metal that meets both EN ISO 24373 and AWS A5.7 standards for critical applications.
  • Reducing weld defects caused by high lead or silicon content in filler metals used for overlay work.

Use Guide

  • Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding process; ensure shielding gas is appropriate for TIG or MIG application.
  • Clean base metal surfaces thoroughly to remove oil, rust, and scale before welding to avoid contamination.
  • Maintain consistent travel speed and heat input to achieve uniform bead profile and avoid overheating.
  • Store wire in dry conditions to prevent moisture absorption; avoid prolonged exposure to humid environments.

How It Compares

AK-ERCuMnNiAl differs from standard copper-based wires like ERCuSn in that it contains higher manganese and aluminum, which enhance corrosion resistance and hardness. Unlike ERNiCr-3, which is used for high-temperature and oxidation resistance, AK-ERCuMnNiAl is optimized for corrosion protection in moderate-temperature environments. It is not suitable for high-temperature service above 945℃, where nickel-based alloys would be preferred.
