AK-ERCuAl-A1 TIG and MIG Wire for Steel and Copper Alloys.
A copper-aluminum alloy wire designed for strong, fluid welds on carbon steel, stainless steel, and steel-to-copper joints with excellent bead appearance and multi-layer welding performance.
Product Overview
AK-ERCuAl-A1 is a TIG and MIG welding wire classified to EN ISO 24373 CuAl7, AWS A5.7 ERCuAl-A1, and GB/T 9460 CuAl7. It is formulated for use in welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and dissimilar joints between steel and copper.
The wire delivers good fluidity in the molten pool, resulting in a smooth, aesthetically pleasing weld bead profile. It is especially recommended for butt welding of steel and copper, with pulsed argon arc welding advised for multi-layer interlayers to control heat input and distortion.
Application: Especially suitable for welding carbon steel and stainless steel. The fluidity of the molten metal is good, the weld shape is beautiful, and it is also suitable for butt welding of steel and copper. Applied to shipbuilding and machinery manufac turing, it is recommended to use pulsed argon arc welding when welding multi-layer steel interlayers.
Key Benefits
Good Molten Metal Fluidity.
The alloy composition ensures smooth flow of the molten metal, reducing the risk of solidification cracks and producing a consistent, well-formed weld bead.
Excellent Bead Appearance
The weld metal forms a clean, uniform bead with minimal spatter, reducing post-weld cleanup and improving visual quality.
Suitable for Steel-to-Copper Joints.
Designed for reliable bonding between steel and copper, with good metallurgical compatibility and mechanical strength.
Recommended for Multi-Layer Welding.
Pulsed argon arc welding is recommended for multi-layer steel interlayers to maintain control over heat input and weld quality.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of carbon steel and stainless steel structures.
- Butt welding of steel and copper in shipbuilding and machinery manufacturing.
- Multi-layer interlayer welding in steel components with pulsed TIG/MIG.
- Fabrication of dissimilar metal joints requiring good ductility and appearance.
Who It Is For
- Shipbuilding and marine fabrication teams requiring reliable steel-copper welds.
- Machinery manufacturers working with mixed steel and copper components.
- Welding engineers specifying consumables for multi-layer joints with pulsed arc techniques.
- Welding distributors supplying alloy wires for industrial and structural applications.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving strong, crack-free welds in steel-to-copper joints where thermal expansion and metallurgical mismatch are concerns.
- Obtaining a clean, smooth weld bead with minimal spatter on carbon and stainless steel using TIG/MIG processes.
- Managing heat input and distortion in multi-layer steel interlayers without compromising weld integrity.

- Solidus temperature at 1030℃ and liquidus temperature at 1040℃, indicating a narrow melting range suitable for controlled welding.
- Density of 7.7 kg/dm³, consistent with copper-aluminum alloy standards.
- Deposited metal tensile strength between 380-450 N/mm², elongation of 40-50%, and Brinell hardness of 100 HB.
- Supplied in diameters and lengths as per standard wire packaging, with pulsed argon arc recommended for multi-layer applications.
Use Guide
- Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position; use pulsed argon arc for multi-layer steel interlayers to control heat and distortion.
- Clean joint surfaces thoroughly to remove oil, grease, rust, and oxides before welding to ensure consistent fusion and avoid contamination.
- Maintain proper shielding gas flow with pure argon or argon-rich mixtures to prevent oxidation and ensure stable arc performance.
- Follow recommended welding parameters for the specific application; pulsed current helps reduce heat input and improve bead control in multi-pass welds.
How It Compares
AK-ERCuAl-A1 is a copper-aluminum alloy wire suitable for welding steel and copper. It differs from standard copper wires like ERCuNi in that it offers higher strength and better fluidity, making it ideal for steel-to-copper joints. Unlike pure copper wires, it has improved mechanical properties and better resistance to solidification cracking. It is not intended for use in aluminum or nickel-based alloys, where different filler metals are required.
