AK-ER90S-B9 Gas Shielded Welding Wire for 9Cr1Mo Heat-Resistant Steel.

A solid wire for gas shielded welding of improved 9Cr1Mo type heat-resistant steels, designed for high-temperature service up to 650°C with controlled preheat and post-weld tempering.

Welding Wire

Product Overview

AK-ER90S-B9 is a solid gas shielded welding wire formulated for welding improved 9Cr1Mo type heat-resistant steels, including T/P91 and F9.

This wire is intended for use in high-temperature applications such as steam pipes in high-pressure boilers, superheater tubes, and furnace tubes in petroleum cracking units. It is suitable for manual tungsten inert gas (TIG) primer and full argon welding processes.

Application: Used for welding improved 9Cr1Mo type (such as T/P91, F9, etc.) heat-resistant ste el with a working temperature of 600-650 ℃, such as steam pipes of high temperature and high pr essure boilers, superheater pipes, furnace pipes of petroleum cracking units, etc. Manual tungsten Extreme argon arc welding primer and full argon welding.

Key Benefits

High-Temperature Service Capability

The weld metal is designed for service temperatures up to 650°C, making it suitable for critical components in power generation and petrochemical systems.

Controlled Preheat and Interpass Temperature.

Recommended preheat and interpass temperature range of 200-300°C helps minimize cracking risks during welding of thick-section 9Cr1Mo materials.

Post-Weld Tempering for Property Recovery.

Tempering at 735-765°C after welding ensures the weld metal achieves the required microstructure and mechanical properties for long-term performance.

Compliant with Multiple International Standards.

Supplied to EN ISO 21952-A:G CrMo91, AWS A5.28 ER90S-B9, and GB/T 8110 ER62-B9, supporting global project specifications.

Where It Is Used

  • Welding of T/P91 and F9 heat-resistant steels in high-temperature and high-pressure environments.
  • Steam pipes and superheater tubes in power plant boilers.
  • Furnace tubes in petroleum cracking units.
  • Manual TIG primer and full argon welding of critical components.

Who It Is For

  • Pressure vessel and boiler manufacturers working with 9Cr1Mo steels.
  • Petrochemical plant maintenance teams requiring consistent filler metal for high-temperature welds.
  • Welding engineers specifying consumables for components operating at 600-650°C.

Problems It Solves

  • Achieving correct weld metal chemistry and mechanical properties in 9Cr1Mo steels that meet code requirements for high-temperature service.
  • Managing welding-induced cracking risks through controlled preheat and post-weld tempering.
  • Sourcing a single wire that meets multiple international standards (EN ISO, AWS, GB) for global projects.

Use Guide

  • Preheat the base metal to 200-300°C before welding and maintain this temperature between passes.
  • Use argon shielding gas for TIG and GMAW processes to ensure clean weld metal and proper protection.
  • After completing the weld, temper the joint at 735-765°C to restore the desired microstructure and mechanical properties.
  • Store the wire in a dry environment and avoid exposure to moisture to prevent hydrogen pickup.

How It Compares

AK-ER90S-B9 is specifically formulated for 9Cr1Mo steels and requires post-weld tempering to achieve full performance. Unlike ER90S-B2, which is used for lower alloy steels, AK-ER90S-B9 has higher chromium and molybdenum content to support service at 600-650°C.
