AK-ER70S-G Gas Shielded Welding Wire for Low Alloy Steel.
A copper-plated solid wire with titanium addition for refined grain structure, stable arc, and low spatter in CO2 or argon-rich gas shielded welding of low alloy steel.
Product Overview
AK-ER70S-G is a copper-plated solid welding wire designed for gas shielded arc welding of low alloy steel with a tensile strength level of 500 MPa. It is formulated for use with CO2 or argon-rich shielding gases in applications requiring high mechanical performance.
The addition of titanium (0.12%) promotes grain refinement by forming TiN nuclei, even under high-energy welding conditions. This improves the microstructure of the weld metal and contributes to enhanced toughness and ductility.
Tight control of sulfur (0.008%) and phosphorus (0.009%) content ensures minimal risk of hot cracking and maintains excellent mechanical properties in the deposited metal. The wire is supplied to EN ISO 636-A: W 42 3 3Si1, AWS A5.18 ER70S-G, and GB/T 8110 ER50-G classifications.
Application: With CO2 or argon-rich gas protection, mainly used in ships, Pipelines, construction machinery, containers, petrochemicals, boilers, and the grade of 50 kg low alloy steel in various fields such as pressure vessels, bridges, lifting and transportation equipment, high-rise buildings and steel structures.
Key Benefits
Refined Grain Structure via Titanium Addition.
The 0.12% titanium content forms TiN particles that act as nucleation sites, refining the grain structure of the weld metal even under high heat input conditions.
Stable Arc and Reduced Spatter.
Titanium addition stabilizes the arc during welding and reduces spatter, improving weld appearance and reducing post-weld cleanup.
Low Sulfur and Phosphorus Content.
Sulfur is limited to 0.008% and phosphorus to 0.009%, minimizing the risk of hot cracking and ensuring high-quality welds in critical applications.
High Mechanical Performance
The deposited metal achieves a tensile strength of 584 MPa, yield stress of 491 MPa, elongation of 26%, and impact toughness of 124 J at minus 40 degrees C.

Use Guide
- Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position. Use CO2 or argon-rich shielding gas as specified.
- Ensure the wire is stored in a dry environment and protected from moisture and contamination before use.
- Clean base metal surfaces from oil, rust, paint, and moisture prior to welding to avoid porosity and defects.
- Maintain consistent wire feed speed and travel speed to achieve uniform bead profile and proper fusion.
How It Compares
AK-ER70S-G and ER70S-6 both serve low alloy steel in gas shielded welding, but AK-ER70S-G includes titanium for grain refinement and improved toughness under high heat input. ER70S-6 lacks intentional titanium addition and may not offer the same level of microstructural control. For applications requiring high impact toughness at low temperatures, AK-ER70S-G is preferred over standard ER70S-6.
