AK-ER70S-6 Gas Shielded Carbon Steel Welding Wire for High-Speed Fabrication.
A copper-coated solid wire for carbon and alloy steel welding with stable arc, low spatter, and excellent mechanical properties, suitable for high-speed applications on sheet plates and pipelines.
Product Overview
AK-ER70S-6 is a gas shielded solid welding wire for manual and automated welding of carbon and alloy steel structures with tensile strength up to 500 MPa. It is designed for high-speed welding of sheet plates and pipelines, where consistent performance and clean weld appearance are required.
The wire features a copper coating that improves conductivity and reduces spatter during welding. Its chemical composition ensures low sensitivity to porosity and delivers high mechanical performance in the deposited weld metal. AKWELD supplies AK-ER70S-6 to the EN ISO 14341-A: G 42 3 C M G3Si1, AWS A5.18 ER70S-6, and GB/T 8110 ER70S-6 classifications.
Application: Used for carbon steel and alloy steel with 500MPa tensile strength structures welding, and high speed welding of sheet plates and pipelines.
Key Benefits
Stable Arc and Low Spatter.
The wire provides a stable arc across the recommended current range, minimizing spatter and reducing the need for post-weld cleaning.
Excellent Bead Appearance
The weld bead produced has a smooth, uniform profile, which reduces the need for grinding or finishing before painting or inspection.
High Mechanical Performance
The deposited metal achieves tensile strength of at least 500 MPa, yield stress of at least 420 MPa, elongation of at least 22 percent, and impact energy of at least 27 J at minus 30 degrees C.
Low Porosity Sensitivity
The chemical composition minimizes the risk of porosity in the weld metal, even under less-than-ideal shielding gas conditions.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of carbon steel and alloy steel structures with tensile strength up to 500 MPa.
- High-speed welding of sheet plates in fabrication shops.
- Pipeline welding in field and shop environments.
- Automated and semi-automated welding processes requiring consistent performance.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying solid wires for structural and pipeline projects.
- Steel fabricators working with sheet and plate materials requiring high-speed welding.
- Pipeline contractors needing consistent wire performance across multiple weld passes.
Problems It Solves
- Porosity in welds caused by inconsistent wire chemistry or poor shielding gas coverage.
- High spatter and poor bead quality that increase post-weld cleaning time.
- Inconsistent mechanical properties in the deposited metal due to variable filler metal composition.
- Need to switch between multiple wire types for different joint thicknesses or welding speeds.

Use Guide
- Select diameter based on material thickness and welding position: 0.8 mm for thin sections, 1.0 mm for medium, 1.2 mm for thicker plates.
- Use the recommended current ranges: 0.8 mm – flat/horizontal 50-200 A, vertical/overhead 50-140 A; 1.0 mm – flat/horizontal 80-250 A, vertical/overhead 80-160 A; 1.2 mm – flat/horizontal 100-360 A, vertical/overhead 80-220 A.
- Ensure shielding gas is clean and dry, and maintain proper gas flow rate to prevent porosity.
- Keep the wire spool sealed when not in use to prevent moisture absorption and contamination.
How It Compares
AK-ER70S-6 and ER70S-2 both weld carbon steel with similar tensile strength, but ER70S-6 has higher silicon and manganese content, which improves weld metal toughness and reduces porosity. ER70S-2 is more sensitive to shielding gas impurities and may produce more spatter. For high-speed welding where weld quality and consistency are critical, AK-ER70S-6 offers better performance than standard ER70S-2.
