AK-ER347 Stainless Steel Gas Shielded Wire for Corrosion-Resistant Welding.
A niobium-stabilized stainless steel wire designed for all-position welding of 347 and 321 stainless steels, offering improved resistance to intergranular corrosion compared to Type 308 wires.
Product Overview
AK-ER347 is a gas shielded stainless steel welding wire formulated for all-position welding of stabilized stainless steels, including 347 and 321 grades. The wire uses niobium (Nb) as the stabilizing element to prevent intergranular corrosion during and after welding.
It is designed for applications involving corrosion-resistant steels containing niobium or nickel-chrome alloys where titanium (Ti) is used as the stabilizer. The chemical composition ensures high resistance to sensitization in heat-affected zones.
AK-ER347 meets the EN ISO 14343-A:G 19 9 Nb and AWS A5.9 ER347 standards, and is also aligned with GB/T 29713 S347. It is supplied in the size and form suitable for gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW).
Application: Used to weld important anti- corrosion steel which contains Nb or nickel -chrome alloys which Ti as the stabilized element.
Key Benefits
Improved Intergranular Corrosion Resistance.
Niobium stabilization in AK-ER347 prevents chromium carbide formation at grain boundaries, reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion in service, especially after exposure to elevated temperatures.
Compatibility with 347 and 321 Stainless Steels.
The wire is specifically suited for welding 347 and 321 stainless steels, matching their stabilized composition and maintaining corrosion resistance in the weld zone.
All-Position Welding Capability
Designed for use in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, allowing consistent weld quality across complex joint geometries without changing consumables.
High Mechanical Performance
The deposited metal achieves a tensile strength of at least 615 MPa, elongation of at least 36 percent, and impact energy of 78 J at minus 40 degrees C, suitable for demanding service environments.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of 347 and 321 stainless steel components in chemical and petrochemical plants.
- Fabrication of pressure vessels and heat exchangers exposed to corrosive media.
- Repair and maintenance of high-temperature, corrosion-resistant systems.
- Joining nickel-chrome alloys stabilized with titanium (Ti) where niobium (Nb) is preferred.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying specialty stainless steel wires.
- Fabricators working with stabilized stainless steels in aggressive environments.
- Maintenance teams repairing critical components in oil & gas, power generation, and chemical processing.
Problems It Solves
- Intergranular corrosion in welds due to insufficient stabilization when using non-stabilized filler metals like Type 308.
- Mismatched filler metal chemistry when welding 347 or 321 stainless steels, to reduced corrosion resistance.
- Need for multiple filler metals to cover different stabilized grades, increasing inventory complexity.

Use Guide
- Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position; use standard sizes for GMAW and GTAW applications.
- Ensure the base metal and surrounding area are clean of oil, grease, rust, and moisture before welding.
- Use shielding gas as specified in the welding procedure—typically argon or argon-rich mixtures for optimal weld quality.
- Maintain consistent travel speed and arc length to avoid porosity and ensure full fusion.
- Store wire in sealed packaging to prevent moisture absorption; re-dry if exposed to humid conditions.
How It Compares
AK-ER347 and Type 308 wires both weld stainless steel, but AK-ER347 contains niobium for stabilization, making it suitable for high-temperature service and environments where intergranular corrosion is a risk. Type 308 lacks stabilization and is not recommended for welding 347 or 321 steels. For applications requiring titanium stabilization, ER321 is the equivalent, but AK-ER347 is preferred when niobium is the stabilizing element in the base metal.
