AK-ER309LMo Low Carbon Stainless Steel Welding Wire for High-Speed Joining.
A super low carbon, high silicon stainless steel wire with high deposition efficiency, designed for welding 309LMo and similar alloys or dissimilar joints to carbon and low alloy steels.
Product Overview
AK-ER309LMo is a super low carbon and high silicon stainless steel welding wire used for joining similar 309LMo alloys or for dissimilar welding between 300-series stainless steels and carbon or low alloy steels.
The low carbon content minimizes the risk of intergranular corrosion, while the elevated silicon improves weld pool fluidity, supporting high-speed welding operations without sacrificing bead quality.
Application: Used to weld super low carbon 24%Cr13%Ni and similar stainless steels, like ASTM 309S etc.
Key Benefits
Low Carbon for Corrosion Resistance.
With carbon content at 0.03 percent, AK-ER309LMo reduces the likelihood of sensitization and intergranular corrosion in service, especially in heat-affected zones.
High Silicon for Fluid Weld Pool.
Silicon content between 0.65 and 1.0 percent enhances weld pool fluidity, which supports stable arc and consistent bead formation during high-speed welding.
High Deposition Efficiency
The wire formulation delivers high deposition efficiency, reducing the need for multiple passes and minimizing weld metal waste.
Suitable for Dissimilar Welding.
It is effective for joining 300-series stainless steels to carbon or low alloy steels, providing a stable transition zone with good mechanical integrity.
Where It Is Used
- Welding super low carbon 24% Cr 13% Ni stainless steels, such as ASTM 309S.
- Joining 309LMo and similar alloys in high-temperature or corrosive environments.
- Dissimilar welding between stainless steels and carbon or low alloy steels.
- High-speed welding applications requiring stable arc and good bead profile.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying stainless steel welding wires for industrial applications.
- Fabricators working with 300-series stainless steels and dissimilar metal joints.
- Maintenance teams repairing equipment exposed to corrosive or elevated temperature service.
Problems It Solves
- Intergranular corrosion in heat-affected zones due to high carbon content in weld metal.
- Poor weld pool control and bead quality at high welding speeds.
- Inconsistent performance when joining stainless steels to carbon or low alloy steels.

- Contains 12.0–14.0 percent nickel, 23.0–25.0 percent chromium, and 2.5 percent molybdenum for corrosion and strength performance.
Use Guide
- Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding process requirements; recommended parameters are available upon request.
- Ensure the base metal and wire surfaces are clean of oil, grease, rust, and moisture before welding.
- Use inert gas shielding (e.g., argon or argon-rich mixtures) for MIG/MAG welding to maintain weld quality.
- Maintain consistent travel speed and arc length to achieve uniform bead profile and avoid porosity.
How It Compares
AK-ER309LMo differs from standard ER309 in carbon content and silicon level. The 0.03 percent carbon reduces risk of intergranular corrosion, while higher silicon improves fluidity for high-speed welding. Standard ER309 has higher carbon and lower silicon, making it less suitable for applications requiring maximum corrosion resistance or high deposition rates.
