AK-ER309L Low Carbon Stainless Steel Welding Wire for Dissimilar and Corrosion-Resistant Joints.

A super low carbon stainless steel wire designed for high deposition efficiency and resistance to intergranular corrosion when joining 309L or similar alloys to carbon or low alloy steels.

Welding Wire

Product Overview

AK-ER309L is a super low carbon stainless steel welding wire used for joining similar 309L alloys or for dissimilar welding between 300-series stainless steels and carbon or low alloy steels. The low carbon content helps prevent intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone.

It is supplied to EN ISO 14343-A:G 19 9 H and AWS A5.9 ER309L standards. The wire is formulated for high deposition efficiency and stable arc performance during gas metal arc welding (GMAW).

Application: Used to weld super low carbon 24%Cr13%Ni and similar stainless steels, like ASTM 309S etc.

Key Benefits

Low Carbon for Intergranular Corrosion Resistance.

With a maximum carbon content of 0.03 percent, AK-ER309L minimizes the risk of sensitization and intergranular corrosion in welded joints exposed to corrosive environments.

High Deposition Efficiency

The wire delivers high deposition efficiency, reducing the need for multiple passes and minimizing weld metal waste during production.

Suitable for Dissimilar Metal Welding.

It is effective for joining 300-series stainless steels to carbon or low alloy steels, providing a stable and corrosion-resistant transition zone.

Compliant with International Standards.

The wire meets EN ISO 14343-A:G 19 9 H and AWS A5.9 ER309L classifications, ensuring compatibility with global welding specifications.

Where It Is Used

  • Welding of super low carbon 24% Cr 13% Ni stainless steels, such as ASTM 309S.
  • Dissimilar welding between 300-series stainless steels and carbon or low alloy steels.
  • Fabrication of equipment requiring resistance to intergranular corrosion.
  • Construction and maintenance of chemical processing and petrochemical systems.

Who It Is For

  • Welding consumable distributors supplying stainless steel welding wires.
  • Fabricators working with 300-series stainless steels and dissimilar metal joints.
  • Maintenance teams in petrochemical and chemical plants requiring corrosion-resistant welds.

Problems It Solves

  • Intergranular corrosion in welded joints due to high carbon content in filler metal.
  • Inconsistent weld quality when joining stainless steel to carbon or low alloy steel without a compatible filler.
  • Low deposition efficiency to increased welding time and material waste.

  • Supplied to EN ISO 14343-A:G 19 9 H and AWS A5.9 ER309L standards.

Use Guide

  • Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position; ensure the welding machine is set to the correct voltage and wire feed speed for the selected parameters.
  • Clean the base metal surfaces thoroughly to remove oil, grease, rust, and scale before welding.
  • Use shielding gas as specified in the welding procedure, typically a mixture of argon and carbon dioxide or pure argon.
  • Maintain consistent travel speed and proper torch angle to achieve uniform bead profile and full fusion.

How It Compares

AK-ER309L and ER308L both join stainless steels but differ in alloy content. ER308L has lower nickel and is used for welding 304-type stainless steels. AK-ER309L has higher nickel and chromium, making it better suited for dissimilar welding and higher corrosion resistance. ER309L is not recommended for high-temperature service above 500 degrees C due to potential sigma phase formation.
