AK-ER308H Austenitic Stainless Steel Welding Wire for 304 and Similar Grades.
A 21% Cr-10% Ni austenitic stainless steel wire with stable arc and excellent bead appearance, suitable for all-position welding of 12Cr18Ni9 and 06Cr18Ni10 steels.
Product Overview
AK-ER308H is a solid welding wire classified to EN ISO 14343-A:G 19 9 H and AWS A5.9 ER308H, designed for welding austenitic stainless steels with 21% chromium and 10% nickel content.
The wire delivers a stable welding arc and produces a smooth, well-shaped weld bead, suitable for all welding positions including flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead.
It is intended for use on 12Cr18Ni9 (SUS 302), 06Cr18Ni10 (SUS 304), and other similar materials where corrosion resistance and mechanical performance are required.
Application: For welding of 12Cr18Ni9 (SUS 302), 06Cr18Ni10 (SUS 304) and other materials.
Key Benefits
Stable Arc and Smooth Bead.
The wire provides a stable arc during welding, resulting in a clean, attractive bead profile with minimal spatter, reducing post-weld cleanup.
All-Position Welding Capability
AK-ER308H can be used in all welding positions without requiring changes in technique or consumable, enabling consistent weld quality across joint orientations.
Compliant Chemistry for Corrosion Resistance.
With chromium content between 19.5% and 22.0% and nickel between 9.0% and 11.0%, the deposited metal maintains the corrosion resistance required for austenitic stainless steel applications.
Controlled Impurity Levels
Carbon is limited to 0.04–0.08%, sulfur to 0.03%, and phosphorus to 0.03%, helping to minimize the risk of intergranular corrosion and maintain weld integrity.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of 12Cr18Ni9 (SUS 302) and 06Cr18Ni10 (SUS 304) stainless steels.
- Fabrication of chemical and petrochemical equipment requiring corrosion-resistant joints.
- Construction of pressure vessels and piping systems in aggressive environments.
- Maintenance and repair of stainless steel structures exposed to moisture or corrosive media.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying stainless steel welding wires.
- Fabricators working with austenitic stainless steels in industrial and architectural applications.
- Maintenance teams responsible for repairing or upgrading stainless steel components in chemical or food processing environments.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving consistent weld quality on 12Cr18Ni9 and 06Cr18Ni10 steels with a wire that maintains proper chemistry and corrosion resistance.
- Eliminating the need to source multiple filler metals for different stainless steel grades when a single wire meets the required specifications.
- Reducing post-weld cleaning and rework due to poor bead appearance or unstable arc during welding.

Use Guide
- Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position; ensure the welding current is within the recommended range for the chosen diameter.
- Clean the base metal surface from oil, grease, rust, and scale before welding to avoid contamination and ensure proper fusion.
- Use inert gas shielding (typically argon or argon-rich mixtures) to protect the molten weld pool from atmospheric contamination.
- Maintain proper torch angle and travel speed to achieve consistent bead shape and full penetration without undercutting.
How It Compares
AK-ER308H is designed for welding 12Cr18Ni9 and 06Cr18Ni10 steels, similar to other ER308H wires. It differs from ER308L in carbon content, as ER308H has a higher carbon range (0.04–0.08%) which improves strength but may increase susceptibility to sensitization if not properly controlled. ER308H is not recommended for service where intergranular corrosion is a concern. For such cases, ER308L or ER308LSi may be preferred.
