AK-ENi5 Submerged Arc Welding Wire for Low Temperature Steel.
A submerged arc welding wire formulated for cryogenic applications with low sulfur and phosphorus content, delivering excellent low-temperature toughness in joints welded with fluxes like SJ101.
Product Overview
AK-ENi5 is a submerged arc welding wire designed for low temperature service, used in conjunction with fluxes such as SJ101 for welding cryogenic vessels, offshore platforms, and ships.
The wire has a low sulfur content (≤0.025%) and low phosphorus content (≤0.03%), which helps minimize the risk of embrittlement and cracking in low-temperature environments.
It is supplied to EN ISO 14171-A S 46 6 FB T2Ni5, AWS A5.23 F8A8-ENi5-Ni5, and GB/T 5293 S55A 6 FB-SUN2M1 standards, and is suitable for welding materials such as S355 steel.
Application: With flux (such as SJ101, etc.), it is used for welding of cryogenic vessels, offshore platforms and ships, such as submerged arc welding of S355 steel.
Key Benefits
Low S and P for Improved Toughness.
The chemical composition limits sulfur to ≤0.025% and phosphorus to ≤0.03%, reducing the risk of cold cracking and improving weld metal performance at low temperatures.
Excellent Low-Temperature Impact Toughness.
The deposited metal achieves impact values of ≥27 J at -60℃, meeting the requirements for service in cryogenic and offshore environments.
High Strength and Ductility.
Tensile strength ranges from 550 to 700 MPa, yield stress is ≥470 MPa, and elongation is ≥22%, ensuring robust joint performance under mechanical stress.
Compatibility with Standard Fluxes.
AK-ENi5 is recommended for use with fluxes such as SJ101, enabling consistent weld quality in automated submerged arc welding processes.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of cryogenic vessels operating at low temperatures.
- Offshore platform structures exposed to harsh marine environments.
- Shipbuilding applications requiring high toughness in low-temperature service.
- Submerged arc welding of S355 steel and similar low-alloy steels.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying materials for cryogenic and offshore projects.

Use Guide
- Use AK-ENi5 with compatible fluxes such as SJ101 for submerged arc welding of low-temperature steels.
- Ensure the flux is dry and free from contamination before use to maintain weld metal cleanliness.
- Follow recommended welding parameters for the specific joint configuration and plate thickness.
- Clean the joint surfaces of rust, oil, and moisture prior to welding to avoid defects.
How It Compares
AK-ENi5 is a nickel-alloyed submerged arc welding wire designed for low-temperature service. It differs from standard carbon steel wires by having controlled levels of nickel (0.75–1.10%) and low sulfur and phosphorus, which enhance toughness at sub-zero temperatures. Unlike general-purpose wires, it is specifically formulated to meet the mechanical and chemical requirements of cryogenic and offshore applications.
