AK-ENi3 Low-Temperature Nickel Steel Submerged Arc Welding Wire.

A 3.5% nickel submerged arc welding wire with low sulfur and phosphorus content, designed for cryogenic service in petrochemical and coal chemical pressure vessels down to -101°C.

Welding Wire

Product Overview

AK-ENi3 is a 3.5% nickel low-temperature steel submerged arc welding wire formulated for use in cryogenic applications. It meets EN ISO 14171-A S 42 7 FB T2Ni3, AWS A5.23 F7P10-ENi3-Ni3, and GB/T 5293 S49A/P7 FB-SUN7 standards.

The wire has low sulfur (≤0.025%) and phosphorus (≤0.030%) content, contributing to excellent mechanical properties and high low-temperature impact toughness, with a minimum impact value of 27 J at -60°C.

Application: With welding (such as AKJ208DR,AKJ218D, etc.), it is suitable for we lding of “coal chemical industry” and the pressure container of the petrochemical in dustry for -101°C,such as the buried arc welding of steel such as Asme SA 203GR.E.

Key Benefits

High Low-Temperature Impact Toughness.

The deposited metal achieves a minimum impact energy of 27 J at -60°C, making it suitable for service at -101°C in critical pressure vessels.

Low Sulfur and Phosphorus Content.

Sulfur ≤0.025% and phosphorus ≤0.030% reduce the risk of hot cracking and improve ductility, especially in thick-section welds.

Consistent Mechanical Properties

Tensile strength ranges from 480 to 660 MPa, yield stress is ≥400 MPa, and elongation is ≥22%, ensuring reliable performance under stress.

Compatibility with Matching Fluxes.

Designed to be used with fluxes such as AKJ208DR and AKJ218D, ensuring consistent weld metal chemistry and mechanical properties.

Where It Is Used

  • Submerged arc welding of pressure vessels in the petrochemical and coal chemical industries.
  • Welding of steel grades such as ASME SA 203 Grade E for cryogenic service.
  • Construction and repair of equipment operating at temperatures down to -101°C.
  • High-integrity joints requiring low-temperature toughness and low hydrogen content.

Who It Is For

  • Petrochemical and coal chemical plant fabricators requiring cryogenic-grade welds.
  • Pressure vessel and boiler makers working with low-temperature steels.
  • Welding distributors supplying consumables for critical low-temperature applications.
  • EPC contractors specifying materials for cryogenic service in pipelines and storage tanks.

Problems It Solves

  • Achieving required low-temperature impact toughness in welds for cryogenic service without compromising strength or ductility.
  • Sourcing a single, certified welding wire that matches the chemistry and performance of high-grade nickel steels.
  • Ensuring consistent weld metal properties when using submerged arc welding on thick-section, low-temperature steels.

Use Guide

  • Select welding parameters based on joint design, thickness, and position; use fluxes AKJ208DR or AKJ218D for optimal results.
  • Ensure the wire and flux are stored dry and protected from moisture before use.
  • Clean joint surfaces of rust, oil, paint, and moisture prior to welding to prevent porosity and cracking.
  • Follow recommended interpass temperature and cooling rate guidelines to maintain low-temperature toughness.

How It Compares

AK-ENi3 is a 3.5% nickel submerged arc welding wire intended for cryogenic service. It differs from standard low-carbon steel wires by having higher nickel content and lower sulfur and phosphorus levels, which improve toughness at low temperatures. It is not suitable for general-purpose welding where high strength and ductility at ambient temperature are sufficient. For non-cryogenic applications, a lower-nickel or non-nickel wire may be more cost-effective.
