AK-ENi1 Low Alloy Steel SAW Wire for Low-Temperature Applications.

A submerged arc welding wire with low sulfur and phosphorus content, designed for high-temperature toughness in low-temperature steel and cryogenic service applications.

Welding Wire

Product Overview

AK-ENi1 is a low alloy steel submerged arc welding wire formulated for use with fluxes such as SJ618. It is intended for submerged arc welding of low-temperature steels, including storage containers and transportation pipes for liquid ammonia.

The wire has a low sulfur and phosphorus content, which contributes to excellent high-temperature toughness and good mechanical performance in low-temperature service conditions. It meets EN ISO 14171-A S 46 4 FB T2Ni1, AWS A5.23 F8A/P6-ENi1-Ni1, and GB/T —— standards.

Application: In conjunction with welding (such as SJ618, etc.), it is used for liquid alumane for storage containers and transportation pipes, and a low-temperature st eel buried arc welding for low-temperature steel.

Key Benefits

Low S and P Content for High Toughness.

Sulfur and phosphorus are limited to ≤0.020 percent, reducing the risk of embrittlement and improving impact performance at low temperatures.

Good Mechanical Performance

The deposited metal achieves tensile strength between 480 MPa and 600 MPa, yield stress of at least 400 MPa, and elongation of at least 22 percent.

High Impact Toughness at Low Temperatures.

Impact values reach at least 34 J at minus 50 degrees C, meeting requirements for cryogenic and low-temperature service.

Compatibility with Common Fluxes.

Designed for use with fluxes such as SJ618, ensuring consistent weld metal properties and stable arc performance during submerged arc welding.

Where It Is Used

  • Submerged arc welding of low-temperature steel storage containers.
  • Welding of liquid ammonia transportation pipes.
  • Low-temperature steel applications requiring high toughness and low hydrogen content.
  • Fabrication of cryogenic equipment and pressure vessels.

Who It Is For

  • Welding consumable distributors supplying SAW wires for low-temperature service.
  • Fabricators of pressure vessels and storage tanks for cryogenic or low-temperature media.
  • Pipeline and oil & gas contractors working with low-temperature steels.

Problems It Solves

  • Achieving required impact toughness at low temperatures in welded joints without compromising strength.
  • Reducing the risk of brittle fracture in low-temperature service due to high sulfur or phosphorus content.
  • Sourcing a single wire that meets multiple international standards for low-temperature applications.

Use Guide

  • Select flux compatibility—recommended fluxes include SJ618—before welding to ensure proper weld metal properties.
  • Ensure the wire and flux are stored dry and protected from moisture to avoid hydrogen-induced cracking.
  • Clean base metal surfaces from oil, rust, paint, and moisture before welding to prevent porosity and defects.
  • Follow recommended welding parameters for the specific joint configuration and thickness to achieve consistent bead profile and mechanical properties.

How It Compares

AK-ENi1 is a low alloy steel SAW wire with nickel content in the 0.75-1.25% range, suitable for low-temperature service. It differs from standard carbon steel SAW wires by having controlled sulfur and phosphorus levels and higher toughness at low temperatures. It is not intended for high-strength applications above 600 MPa tensile strength.
