AK-ENi-CI Nickel-Cored Electrode for Cast Iron Repair and Joining.
A nickel-cored electrode for welding cast iron with soft, machinable weld metal, suitable for cold or slightly preheated workpieces and repair of broken components.
Product Overview
AK-ENi-CI is a nickel-cored electrode designed for welding average grade cast irons and repairing broken cast iron parts. The electrode produces a soft, easily machinable weld metal and can be used on cold or slightly preheated base material.
It is suitable for joining thin sections of cast iron and restoring damaged components in industrial and maintenance applications. The electrode meets EN ISO 1071 E C Ni-CI 3, AWS A5.15, and ENi-CI GB/T 10044 EZNi-1 classifications.
Application: Used to thin weld parts of cast irons and repair broken parts.
Key Benefits
Soft and Machinable Weld Metal.
The deposited metal is soft and easily machinable, reducing the need for extensive post-weld machining and minimizing tool wear during finishing operations.
Welds on Cold or Slightly Preheated Material.
The electrode allows deposition on cold or slightly preheated cast iron, reducing thermal stress and the risk of cracking during repair.
Suitable for Thin Sections and Repairs.
Designed for thin weld parts and repair work, it provides reliable fusion and dimensional control in localized applications.
Complies with Multiple International Standards.
The electrode is certified to EN ISO 1071 E C Ni-CI 3, AWS A5.15, and ENi-CI GB/T 10044 EZNi-1, ensuring compatibility with international welding specifications.
Where It Is Used
- Repair of broken cast iron components.
- Joining of average grade cast irons in thin sections.
- Maintenance and field repair of cast iron machinery and parts.
- Welding where machinability of the weld metal is a priority.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying cast iron repair solutions.
- Maintenance teams in industrial plants and foundries.
- Fabricators and repair shops working with cast iron equipment.
- Contractors performing on-site repairs of cast iron structures.
Problems It Solves
- Cracking in cast iron repairs due to high thermal stress from hot welding.
- Difficult machining of hard or brittle weld metal in cast iron joints.
- Inconsistent weld quality when using electrodes not designed for cast iron.
- Need for multiple consumables to cover different cast iron repair scenarios.

Technical Features
- Nickel-cored electrode for cast iron welding with soft, machinable weld metal.
- Chemical composition includes nickel ≥85%, carbon ≤2.0%, sulfur ≤0.030%, silicon ≤2.5%, manganese ≤1.0%, iron ≤8.0%, aluminum ≤1.0%, copper ≤2.5%
- Suitable for flat and horizontal welding positions only.
- Available in 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm, and 4.0 mm diameters with published current ranges.
Use Guide
- Select diameter based on joint thickness: 2.5 mm for thin sections, 3.2 mm for medium, 4.0 mm for heavier repairs.
- Use recommended current ranges: 2.5 mm – 70-110 A flat/horizontal, 3.2 mm – 100-140 A flat/horizontal, 4.0 mm – 140-180 A flat/horizontal.
- Clean the joint surfaces from oil, rust, and scale before welding to ensure good fusion.
- Avoid excessive heat input; use short, controlled passes to minimize distortion and cracking.
- Store electrodes in sealed packaging and re-dry if exposed to moisture before use.
How It Compares
AK-ENi-CI is a nickel-cored electrode for cast iron repair, differing from basic or low-hydrogen electrodes used for steel. It is not intended for structural steel welding. Compared to other cast iron electrodes, it offers higher nickel content and softer weld metal, which improves machinability but may not be suitable for high-strength joints. It is not a substitute for electrodes designed for high-strength or heat-resistant cast iron grades.
