AK-EA3 Submerged Arc Welding Wire for Low-Alloy High-Strength Steel.
A submerged arc welding wire formulated for high-strength low-alloy steels, delivering excellent mechanical properties and crack resistance when used with compatible fluxes.
Product Overview
AK-EA3 is a low alloy high strength steel submerged arc welding wire designed for use with fluxes such as AKJ101, AKJ113, and HJ250. It is intended for welding low-alloy high-strength structural steels including Q490, 12 MnNiVR, and 08 MnNiVR.
The wire's chemical composition, including controlled levels of carbon, silicon, manganese, and molybdenum, supports the development of weld metal with high tensile strength, good ductility, and resistance to cracking under service conditions.
Application: Combined with flux (such as AKJ101, AKJ113, HJ250, etc.) for the welding of low-alloy high-strength structural steels such as Q490, 12 MnNiVR, 08 MnNiVR, etc.
Key Benefits
High Tensile Strength and Yield Stress.
The deposited metal achieves a tensile strength of 620-760 MPa and a yield stress of at least 540 MPa, meeting the mechanical requirements for high-strength structural applications.
Good Ductility and Crack Resistance.
With elongation of at least 17 percent and impact energy of at least 27 J at minus 20 degrees C, the weld metal maintains toughness and resistance to cracking in low-temperature environments.
Controlled Chemical Composition
The wire contains 0.12 percent carbon, 0.80 percent silicon, 2.10 percent manganese, and 0.40-0.65 percent molybdenum, with sulfur and phosphorus limited to 0.030 percent or less, ensuring consistent weld quality.
Compatibility with Multiple Fluxes.
AK-EA3 performs effectively when used with fluxes such as AKJ101, AKJ113, and HJ250, allowing flexibility in process selection for different fabrication environments.

Use Guide
- Select a compatible flux such as AKJ101, AKJ113, or HJ250 based on joint design, base metal, and service conditions.
- Ensure the wire and flux are stored in dry conditions to prevent moisture absorption before use.
- Clean the joint surfaces of oil, rust, paint, and moisture prior to welding to avoid porosity and cracking.
- Follow recommended welding parameters for the selected flux and wire combination to achieve optimal bead profile and mechanical properties.
How It Compares
AK-EA3 is a low alloy high strength steel wire intended for submerged arc welding of high-strength structural steels. It differs from general-purpose mild steel wires by its higher manganese and molybdenum content, which enhances strength and toughness. When compared to other high-strength wires, AK-EA3 offers a balanced combination of strength, ductility, and crack resistance when used with the correct flux. It is not suitable for welding low-carbon steels where lower strength and higher ductility are acceptable.
