AK-E9018-G Low-Hydrogen Sodium Electrode for Low-Alloy Steel Welding.
A low-alloy steel electrode with sodium-type coating, designed for all-position welding with high crack resistance and mechanical strength in demanding applications.
Product Overview
AK-E9018-G is a low-alloy steel electrode with a low-hydrogen sodium-type coating, suitable for all-position welding using DC reverse polarity. It is formulated for use on low-alloy steels of corresponding strength classes.
The electrode delivers high mechanical properties and excellent crack resistance, making it suitable for critical structural and pressure-containing applications where weld integrity is essential. It meets EN ISO 18275 E55 4 1NiMoB 3 2, AWS A5.5 E9018-G-H4, and GB/T 5118 E9018-G classifications.
Application: For welding of low alloy steels of corresponding strength classes.
Key Benefits
Low-Hydrogen Sodium Coating
The sodium-type coating minimizes hydrogen content in the weld metal, reducing the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in high-strength low-alloy steels.
All-Position Welding Capability
AK-E9018-G can be used in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, enabling consistent weld quality across complex joint geometries without changing consumables.
High Mechanical Strength
The deposited metal achieves a tensile strength of at least 620 MPa and a yield stress of at least 530 MPa, meeting the requirements for high-strength low-alloy steel applications.
Excellent Crack Resistance
The electrode's composition and low-hydrogen nature provide good resistance to cracking, particularly in restrained joints or when welding materials with higher hardenability.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of low-alloy steels in structural and pressure vessel applications.
- Fabrication and maintenance of heavy equipment and industrial plant components.
- Construction of bridges and offshore structures requiring high-strength, crack-resistant welds.
- Repair and modification of high-strength steel components in oil & gas and power generation.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying low-alloy steel electrodes for industrial applications.
- Fabricators and EPC contractors working with high-strength low-alloy steels.
- Maintenance teams performing repairs on critical steel structures where weld integrity is essential.
Problems It Solves
- Cracking in welds due to high hydrogen content when using non-low-hydrogen electrodes on high-strength low-alloy steels.
- Inconsistent weld quality across different positions when switching between electrodes.
- Difficulty in meeting mechanical property requirements for high-strength low-alloy steel joints.

Use Guide
- Select diameter by joint thickness and welding position. For 3.2 mm: flat/horizontal 90–130 A, vertical/overhead 80–110 A.
- For 4.0 mm: flat/horizontal 140–180 A, vertical/overhead 130–170 A.
- For 5.0 mm: flat/horizontal 190–230 A, vertical/overhead 180–210 A.
- Use DC reverse polarity only. Ensure the electrode is dry before use; re-bake if exposed to moisture.
- Clean joint surfaces from rust, oil, paint, and moisture before welding to prevent porosity and cracking.
How It Compares
AK-E9018-G and E9018-B1 are both low-alloy electrodes with low-hydrogen coatings, but AK-E9018-G uses a sodium-type coating, which requires DC reverse polarity and offers better crack resistance in high-strength steels. Basic-coated electrodes like E9018-B1 are also low-hydrogen but may require stricter storage and handling. Cellulosic electrodes provide deeper penetration but higher hydrogen content, making them unsuitable for high-strength or crack-sensitive applications.
