AK-E7016 Low Hydrogen Alkaline Electrode for All-Position Welding.
A low hydrogen alkaline electrode designed for all-position welding with good slag detachability and a smooth weld surface, suitable for marine steels and similar strength structures.
Product Overview
AK-E7016 is a low hydrogen alkaline covered electrode for manual metal arc welding of marine steels (A, B, D, E, AH36, DH36, EH36) and other structures with comparable strength. The electrode is formulated for short arc welding and delivers consistent performance across all positions.
Its alkaline coating provides good slag detachability and a clean, attractive weld bead appearance. The electrode is supplied to ISO 2560-A:E 42 2 B 12 H5, AWS A5.1 E7016, and GB/T 5117 E5016 classifications, with mechanical properties meeting or exceeding the specified minimums.
Application: Used to weld the Marine steels (A、B、D、E、AH36、DH36 EH36)and other same grade strength structures, like vehicles, bridges, constructions, etc.
Key Benefits
Low Hydrogen for Reduced Cracking Risk.
The alkaline coating minimizes hydrogen content in the weld metal, reducing the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in high-strength and thick-section applications.
Good Slag Detachability
Slag lifts off easily after welding, reducing the need for extensive chipping and cleaning between passes.
Smooth Weld Appearance
The electrode produces a well-formed, visually clean weld bead with minimal spatter, reducing post-weld finishing time.
All-Position Welding Capability
Suitable for flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding positions, allowing consistent performance without changing consumables.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of marine steels (A, B, D, E, AH36, DH36, EH36)
- Structural fabrication of bridges and buildings.
- Heavy equipment and vehicle frame construction.
- General-purpose welding of similar strength structural steels.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors stocking low hydrogen electrodes for structural applications.
- Shipyards and marine fabricators working with AH36, DH36, EH36 steels.
- Bridge and construction fabricators requiring consistent weld quality in all positions.
Problems It Solves
- Weld cracking in high-strength or thick-section steels due to high hydrogen content in the weld metal.
- Excessive slag removal and rework caused by stubborn or hard-to-remove slag.
- Inconsistent weld appearance and high spatter levels from electrodes with poor bead control.
- Need to switch electrodes when changing welding positions on the same joint.

- Supplied in 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm, and 4.0 mm diameters with published current ranges for each.
Use Guide
- Select diameter by joint thickness and set current within the published range: 2.5 mm runs 70-110 A flat/horizontal, 50-80 A vertical/overhead; 3.2 mm runs 100-140 A flat/horizontal, 80-110 A vertical/overhead; 4.0 mm runs 140-180 A flat/horizontal, 130-170 A vertical/overhead.
- Clean joint surfaces thoroughly from oil, rust, paint, and moisture before welding.
- Store electrodes in sealed packaging and re-bake if exposed to air for more than 4 hours.
- Remove slag completely between passes using a chipping hammer and wire brush to prevent inclusions.
How It Compares
AK-E7016 and E6013 both weld low carbon steel in all positions, but they differ in coating type and performance. E7016 has a low hydrogen alkaline coating, which reduces cracking risk in high-strength steels and thick sections, while E6013 uses a rutile coating for better arc stability at low current and cleaner appearance on thin materials. For applications requiring high impact toughness and low hydrogen, E7016 is preferred over rutile electrodes.
