AK-E6010 High Cellulose Sodium Electrode for All-Position Pipeline Welding.

A high cellulose sodium electrode designed for vertical down welding in carbon steel pipelines, with strong penetration and one-side welding capability for girth joints.

Welding Electrodes

Product Overview

AK-E6010 is a high cellulose sodium covered electrode for manual metal arc welding of carbon steel pipelines. It is formulated for all-position welding, including vertical down, and supports one-side welding with two-side formation on girth joints.

The electrode operates with direct current reverse polarity (DC reverse) and delivers deep penetration, making it suitable for root passes in pipeline fabrication where access is limited and full joint fusion is required.

Application: Suitable for the girth welding of kinds of carbon steel pipelines.

Key Benefits

Deep Penetration with DC Reverse Polarity.

The high cellulose sodium coating enables strong arc stability and deep penetration when used with DC reverse current, which is essential for achieving full fusion in root passes of pipeline girth welds.

Vertical Down Welding Capability.

AK-E6010 is specifically designed for vertical down welding, allowing continuous deposition in the downward direction without slag entrapment or poor bead formation.

One-Side Welding, Two-Side Formation.

The electrode supports single-side welding with complete fusion and sound weld metal on the opposite side, reducing the need for multiple passes and access from both sides.

All-Position Performance

Flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions are all covered by one electrode, enabling consistent performance across different joint orientations in pipeline construction.

Where It Is Used

  • Girth welding of carbon steel pipelines.
  • Root pass welding in pipeline fabrication.
  • Vertical down welding in field and shop environments.
  • Welding where access is limited to one side of the joint.

Who It Is For

  • Pipeline contractors requiring reliable root pass electrodes.
  • Welding teams working on carbon steel pipeline projects with restricted access.
  • Fabricators needing one electrode for multiple positions in girth welds.

Problems It Solves

  • Achieving full penetration and fusion in root passes with limited access to the back side of the joint.
  • Maintaining consistent arc stability and penetration in vertical down welding positions.
  • Reducing the need for multiple electrode types across different welding positions.

Technical Features

  • High cellulose sodium coating for deep penetration and stable arc with DC reverse current.
  • Deposited metal tensile strength at least 430 MPa with yield stress at least 330 MPa.
  • Elongation at least 17 percent and impact energy at least 27 J at minus 30 degrees C.
  • Supplied in 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm and 4.0 mm diameters with published current ranges for each.

Use Guide

  • Select diameter by joint thickness and welding position, then set current within the published range: 2.5 mm runs 60-90 A flat/horizontal and 50-80 A vertical/overhead, 3.2 mm runs 70-110 A flat/horizontal and 60-100 A vertical/overhead, 4.0 mm runs 110-150 A flat/horizontal and 100-140 A vertical/overhead.
  • Clean the joint surfaces from oil, rust, moisture and contaminants before welding to avoid porosity and cracking.
  • Keep electrodes dry in sealed packaging; re-dry any exposed electrodes before use to maintain coating integrity.
  • Remove slag completely between passes to prevent inclusions and ensure sound weld metal in subsequent layers.

How It Compares

AK-E6010 and E6013 both weld carbon steel in all positions, but they differ in coating and performance. AK-E6010 uses a high cellulose sodium coating for deep penetration and vertical down capability, making it ideal for pipeline root passes. E6013 uses a rutile coating for better arc stability at low current and cleaner beads, suited for thin sheet metal and cosmetic welds. For low-hydrogen requirements, a basic-coated electrode is preferred over either.
