AK-E310Mo-16 Rutile-Coated Austenitic Stainless Steel Electrode for High-Temperature and Corrosion-Resistant Welding.
A pure austenitic stainless steel electrode with molybdenum addition for improved corrosion, heat, and crack resistance in high-temperature service and dissimilar steel welding.
Product Overview
AK-E310Mo-16 is a rutile-coated Cr26Ni21Mo2 pure austenitic stainless steel electrode designed for manual metal arc welding. It is suitable for AC and DC welding in all positions, offering stable arc performance and consistent weld quality.
The addition of molybdenum to the deposited metal enhances corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and crack resistance compared to A402 and A407 electrodes. It meets the EN ISO 3581-A:E (25 20 2 L) R 1 2 and AWS A5.4 E310Mo-16 classifications.
This electrode is used for welding heat-resistant stainless steels operating under high-temperature conditions, stainless steel linings, and dissimilar steels. It also provides excellent toughness when joining carbon steel and low alloy steel with high hardenability.
Application: It is used for welding the same type of heat-resistant stainless steel that works under high temperature conditions, and can also be used for welding stainless steel linings, dissimilar steels, etc. Excellent toughness when welding carbon steel and low alloy steel with high hardenability.
Key Benefits
Improved Corrosion and Heat Resistance.
The molybdenum content in the deposited metal increases resistance to corrosion and high-temperature degradation, making it suitable for demanding service environments.
All-Position Welding Capability
AC and DC dual-use operation allows welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions without changing consumables.
Stable Arc and Good Process Performance.
The rutile coating ensures a stable arc and consistent weld pool behavior, reducing spatter and improving weld bead appearance.
Enhanced Crack Resistance
The alloy composition provides improved resistance to hot cracking, particularly in high-stress or high-hardness base metals.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of heat-resistant stainless steels in high-temperature applications.
- Stainless steel linings in pressure vessels and reactors.
- Dissimilar steel welding between stainless steel and carbon or low alloy steel.
- Repair and maintenance of high-temperature components in power and petrochemical plants.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying specialty stainless steel electrodes.
- Fabricators working with high-temperature and corrosion-resistant stainless steel components.
- Maintenance teams in power plants, petrochemical facilities, and refineries requiring reliable welds in aggressive environments.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving sufficient corrosion and heat resistance in welds where standard austenitic electrodes like A402 and A407 fall short.
- Welding dissimilar materials such as stainless steel to carbon or low alloy steel with good toughness and crack resistance.
- Maintaining consistent weld quality across all positions without re-qualifying procedures or changing electrodes.

Use Guide
- Select diameter by joint thickness and welding position: 2.5 mm for thin sections, 3.2 mm for medium, 4.0 mm for thicker sections.
- Use the recommended current ranges: 2.5 mm – flat/horizontal 60-80 A, vertical/overhead 40-70 A; 3.2 mm – flat/horizontal 80-120 A, vertical/overhead 60-100 A; 4.0 mm – flat/horizontal 100-150 A, vertical/overhead 80-130 A.
- Clean the base metal surface from oil, grease, rust, and moisture before welding to ensure sound welds.
- Store electrodes in sealed packaging and re-dry if exposed to moisture before use.
How It Compares
AK-E310Mo-16 and A402 both weld austenitic stainless steel, but AK-E310Mo-16 includes molybdenum for enhanced corrosion and heat resistance. A407 has a basic coating with higher hydrogen control, suitable for critical applications requiring low hydrogen, but it is not as easy to use in all positions. Where higher resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking is needed, AK-E310Mo-16 is preferred over standard E308L or E316L electrodes.
