AK-E310-16 Austenitic Stainless Steel Electrode for High-Temperature and Dissimilar Welding.
A high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic electrode for welding heat-resistant stainless steels and dissimilar joints, with weld metal stable up to 1150°C and zero measurable ferrite.
Product Overview
AK-E310-16 is an austenitic stainless steel electrode designed for manual metal arc welding of 25Cr20Ni stainless steels and similar high-temperature-resistant grades. The electrode produces weld metal with a heat resistance range of 1100–1150°C and contains no measurable ferrite, ensuring high resistance to hot cracking and maintaining ductility under thermal cycling.
It is used to join heat-resistant stainless steels, high hardenability chromium steels such as arm plates, and dissimilar steels including stainless to unalloyed carbon steel. The electrode meets AWS A5.4 E310-16 and EN ISO 3581-A:E (25 20) R 1 2 classifications.
Application: Used to weld similar composition heat resistance stainless steels, high harden ability chromiums steels, and dissimilar steels.
Key Benefits
High Heat Resistance Up to 1150°C.
The weld metal maintains structural integrity and resistance to oxidation and creep at temperatures between 1100°C and 1150°C, suitable for high-temperature service applications.
Zero Measurable Ferrite in Weld Metal.
The absence of measurable ferrite ensures excellent ductility and resistance to hot cracking, particularly important in thick-section and high-stress joints.
Suitable for Dissimilar Welding.
Effective for joining stainless steels to unalloyed steels and other high-hardenability chromium steels, providing a stable, corrosion-resistant bond.
Consistent Mechanical Properties
Deposited metal achieves tensile strength of at least 550 MPa and elongation of at least 25 percent, meeting the requirements for demanding structural and thermal applications.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of 25Cr20Ni and similar heat-resistant stainless steels.
- Joining high hardenability chromium steels such as arm plates.
- Dissimilar welding of stainless steel to unalloyed carbon steel.
- High-temperature service components in petrochemical and power generation equipment.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying specialty stainless electrodes.
- Fabricators working with heat-resistant stainless steels in high-temperature environments.
- Maintenance teams repairing or upgrading equipment exposed to elevated temperatures.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving weld metal with no measurable ferrite in high-chromium stainless steel joints, reducing risk of hot cracking.
- Matching filler metal chemistry to 25Cr20Ni and similar heat-resistant steels to ensure service performance at 1100–1150°C.
- Providing a single electrode solution for dissimilar welding between stainless and unalloyed steels without compromising corrosion resistance or mechanical properties.

Use Guide
- Select diameter by joint thickness and position: 2.5 mm for thin sections, 3.2 mm for medium, 4.0 mm for thicker materials.
- Use flat and horizontal positions at 60–80 A (2.5 mm), 80–120 A (3.2 mm), and 100–150 A (4.0 mm).
- For vertical and overhead welding, reduce current: 40–70 A (2.5 mm), 60–100 A (3.2 mm), and 80–130 A (4.0 mm).
- Keep electrodes dry in sealed packaging; re-bake if exposed to moisture before use.
- Clean joint surfaces of oil, rust, and scale before welding to ensure consistent weld quality.
How It Compares
AK-E310-16 and E309-16 both weld dissimilar joints, but E310-16 has higher chromium and nickel content, making it better suited for high-temperature service and pure austenitic welds without ferrite. E309-16 is used for joining carbon steel to stainless steel but may contain some ferrite. For applications requiring maximum heat resistance and zero ferrite, AK-E310-16 is the preferred choice.
