AK-E309LT1-1 Rutile Flux-Cored Wire for Dissimilar Stainless Steel Welding.
A low-carbon, rutile-type flux-cored wire for all-position welding of stainless steel to carbon steel and other dissimilar joints, with good crack resistance and corrosion performance.
Product Overview
AK-E309LT1-1 is a rutile-type flux-cored wire for gas metal arc welding of stainless steel to carbon steel and other dissimilar metal joints. It is designed for use in all welding positions and delivers stable arc performance with good bead appearance and slag removal.
The low carbon content of the wire contributes to excellent resistance to hot cracking and maintains good corrosion resistance in the weld deposit. It is suitable for applications involving composite steel structures and equipment in petrochemical and similar industries.
Application: It is often used for the same type of stainless steel structure, compos ite steel and dissimilar steel and other components of the same type of carbon steel and stainless steel dissimilar welding, petrochemical and other equipment manufact uring.
Key Benefits
Low Carbon for Crack Resistance.
With a carbon content of 0.04 percent, AK-E309LT1-1 reduces the risk of hot cracking in the weld metal, especially in high-stress or thick-section joints.
Good Corrosion Resistance
The wire delivers a weld deposit with chromium content between 22.0 and 25.0 percent and nickel between 12.0 and 14.0 percent, supporting good resistance to corrosion in aggressive environments.
All-Position Welding Capability
The rutile flux formulation allows consistent arc performance and stable metal transfer in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
Stable Process with Low Spatter.
The flux-cored design provides a smooth, stable arc and minimal spatter, reducing post-weld cleaning and improving weld appearance.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of stainless steel to carbon steel in dissimilar metal joints.
- Composite steel structures requiring corrosion-resistant welds.
- Petrochemical equipment manufacturing and repair.
- Fabrication of components where crack resistance is critical.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying flux-cored wires for industrial applications.
- Petrochemical and pressure equipment fabricators working with dissimilar metals.
- Maintenance teams performing repairs on stainless steel and carbon steel joints.
Problems It Solves
- Cracking in welds when joining stainless steel and carbon steel due to high carbon content in the filler metal.
- Poor corrosion resistance in welds caused by inadequate alloying element levels in the deposited metal.
- Inconsistent welding performance in vertical or overhead positions with non-rutile flux-cored wires.

Technical Features
- Rutile-type flux-cored wire for all-position GMAW of dissimilar metals.
- Carbon content: 0.04 percent, ensuring low risk of hot cracking.
- Chromium content: 22.0–25.0 percent, nickel content: 12.0–14.0 percent, providing corrosion resistance.
- Supplied in 1.2 mm and 1.6 mm diameters with recommended voltage and current ranges.
- Complies with EN ISO 17633- A:T 23 12 L P C/M2, AWS A5.22 E309LT1-1, and GB/T 17853 E309LT1-1.
Use Guide
- Select 1.2 mm wire for thin sections and 1.6 mm for higher deposition rates; use 22–36 V and 120–260 A for 1.2 mm, 26–38 V and 200–300 A for 1.6 mm.
- Clean the joint surfaces from oil, grease, rust, and moisture before welding to ensure consistent weld quality.
- Store the wire in a dry environment and avoid exposure to humidity to prevent porosity and spatter.
- Use a shielding gas as specified in the welding procedure, typically a mixture of argon and carbon dioxide.
How It Compares
AK-E309LT1-1 and E309L are both low-carbon stainless steel flux-cored wires used for dissimilar welding. E309LT1-1 has a rutile flux formulation that improves arc stability and slag removal, especially in vertical and overhead positions. Standard E309L wires may have different flux types that affect spatter and bead profile. For joints requiring maximum corrosion resistance, E309LT1-1 offers a balanced combination of alloying elements and low carbon.
