AK-E308LT0-3 Flux-Cored Stainless Steel Wire for Flat and Horizontal Cladding.
A shelf-shielded, flux-cored stainless steel wire with low carbon content, designed for cladding carbon steel and welding 301, 302, 304L, 308, and 308L stainless steel in flat and horizontal positions.
Product Overview
AK-E308LT0-3 is a flux-cored stainless steel welding wire intended for use in flat and horizontal welding positions. It is designed for cladding carbon steel and joining 301, 302, 304L, 308, and 308L stainless steel grades.
The wire has a nominal weld metal composition of 21% chromium and 10% nickel, with a maximum carbon content of 0.03%. This low carbon level reduces the risk of carbide precipitation and improves resistance to intergranular corrosion in the weld zone.
Application: AK-E308LT0-3 is used for the cladding of carbon steels. It may also be used to weld 301, 302, 304L, 308, and 308L stainless steel.
Key Benefits
Low Carbon for Corrosion Resistance.
With a maximum carbon content of 0.03%, AK-E308LT0-3 minimizes the formation of chromium carbides during welding, enhancing resistance to intergranular corrosion in the weld metal.
Suitable for Cladding and Stainless Steel Joining.
The wire is formulated for cladding carbon steel and welding common austenitic stainless steels including 301, 302, 304L, 308, and 308L, offering consistent chemical and mechanical performance.
Flat and Horizontal Position Only.
Designed specifically for flat and horizontal welding positions, ensuring stable arc and consistent bead formation under these conditions.
Shelf-Shielded Operation
The flux-cored design provides internal shielding, reducing the need for external shielding gas in certain applications, simplifying setup and improving productivity.
Where It Is Used
- Cladding of carbon steel with a corrosion-resistant stainless steel layer.
- Welding of 301, 302, 304L, 308, and 308L stainless steel components.
- Repair and maintenance of stainless steel structures in flat and horizontal positions.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying flux-cored wires for stainless steel applications.
- Fabricators working on cladding projects involving carbon steel and stainless steel.
- Maintenance teams repairing stainless steel equipment in controlled welding positions.
Problems It Solves
- Intergranular corrosion in welds due to high carbon content in filler metal.
- Need for multiple consumables when cladding carbon steel or joining different stainless steel grades.
- Inconsistent weld metal chemistry when using non-certified or non-standard flux-cored wires.

Use Guide
- Select 1.2 mm diameter for thinner sections and 1.6 mm for higher deposition rates, ensuring the joint is in flat or horizontal position.
- Set voltage between 22–36 V and current between 120–260 A for 1.2 mm diameter; for 1.6 mm, use 26–38 V and 200–300 A.
- Clean the base metal surface from oil, rust, paint, and moisture before welding to ensure sound fusion and avoid defects.
- Store the wire in a dry environment and avoid prolonged exposure to humidity to maintain performance.
How It Compares
AK-E308LT0-3 is a flux-cored wire designed for flat and horizontal positions only, unlike some solid wires that allow all-position welding. It offers lower carbon content than standard E308L wires, improving resistance to intergranular corrosion. Compared to gas-shielded wires, it requires no external shielding gas but may produce more spatter. It is not suitable for vertical or overhead welding due to its flux-cored nature and lack of arc stability in those positions.
