AK-E308L-16 Super-Low Carbon Stainless Steel Electrode for Corrosion-Resistant Welding.

A super-low carbon stainless steel electrode designed for welding Cr19Ni10 and Cr17 stainless steels with excellent intergranular corrosion resistance and stable arc performance.

Welding Electrodes

Product Overview

AK-E308L-16 is a super-low carbon stainless steel electrode formulated for manual metal arc welding of Cr19Ni10 and Cr17 type stainless steels. The deposited metal has a carbon content of ≤0.04%, which reduces the risk of sensitization and improves resistance to intergranular corrosion.

The electrode delivers excellent mechanical properties and good resistance to porosity during welding. It is suitable for applications requiring both heat and corrosion resistance in stainless steel structures.

Application: Used to weld Cr17 stainless steel structures where corrosion resistance and heat resistance is required.

Key Benefits

Low Carbon Deposit for Corrosion Resistance.

The deposited metal contains carbon at ≤0.04%, which minimizes the formation of chromium carbides at grain boundaries and enhances resistance to intergranular corrosion in service.

Stable Arc and Porosity Resistance.

The electrode provides a stable arc across the recommended current ranges and shows good resistance to porosity, even in less-than-ideal joint preparation.

High Ductility and Tensile Strength.

The weld metal achieves a tensile strength of at least 510 MPa and elongation of at least 30%, ensuring good ductility and toughness in the welded joint.

All-Position Welding Capability

AK-E308L-16 can be used in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, allowing consistent performance across different joint orientations.

Where It Is Used

  • Welding of Cr17 stainless steel structures requiring corrosion and heat resistance.
  • Fabrication of chemical and petrochemical equipment with stainless steel components.
  • Maintenance and repair of stainless steel piping and vessels exposed to corrosive environments.
  • General-purpose welding of Cr19Ni10 and similar austenitic stainless steels.

Who It Is For

  • Welding consumable distributors supplying stainless steel electrodes for industrial applications.
  • Fabricators working with Cr17 and Cr19Ni10 stainless steels in corrosive environments.
  • Maintenance teams responsible for repairing stainless steel components in chemical, power, and oil & gas facilities.

Problems It Solves

  • Intergranular corrosion in welds due to high carbon content in deposited metal when welding sensitizing stainless steels.
  • Porosity and poor arc stability in stainless steel welding due to inadequate electrode formulation.
  • Need for multiple electrode types to cover different positions and material grades in stainless steel fabrication.

  • Use the recommended current ranges: 2.5 mm – flat/horizontal 60–80 A, vertical/overhead 40–70 A; 3.2 mm – flat/horizontal 80–120 A, vertical/overhead 60–100 A; 4.0 mm – flat/horizontal 100–150 A, vertical/overhead 80–130 A.
  • Clean the joint surfaces thoroughly to remove oil, grease, rust, and moisture before welding.
  • Store electrodes in sealed packaging and re-dry if exposed to moisture before use.

How It Compares

E308-16 may be used in less corrosive environments or where higher strength is required. For high-temperature service or severe corrosion, E308L-16 is preferred over standard E308 electrodes.
