AK-E308-16 Rutile-Coated Stainless Steel Electrode for All-Position Welding.
A Cr18Ni9 stainless steel electrode with rutile coating for stable arc and clean welds in all positions, suitable for corrosion-resistant structures operating above 300C.
Product Overview
AK-E308-16 is a rutile-coated stainless steel electrode for manual metal arc welding of corrosion-resistant steels. It meets the EN ISO 3581-A:E (19 9)R 1 2 and AWS A5.4 E308-16 classifications.
The electrode is suitable for welding materials such as 06Cr19Ni9 and 06Cr19Ni11Ti, which are used in structures exposed to environments where the working temperature is not lower than 300C.
It supports AC and DC welding in all positions, with a stable arc, low spatter, easy slag removal, and a smooth, attractive weld bead profile.
Application: It is suitable for welding corrosion-resistant stainless steel structures whose working temperature is not lower than 300C, such as 06Cr19Ni9, 06Cr19Ni11Ti, etc.
Key Benefits
Stable Arc and Low Spatter.
The rutile coating ensures a stable arc across AC and DC currents, minimizing spatter and improving weld consistency during all-position welding.
Easy Slag Removal
The slag formed during welding lifts off easily, reducing the need for extensive cleaning between passes and helping maintain weld integrity.
Good Resistance to Intergranular Corrosion.
The deposited metal exhibits good resistance to intergranular corrosion, which is critical for maintaining joint integrity in corrosive environments.
All-Position Welding Capability
AK-E308-16 performs reliably in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, allowing one electrode to cover multiple joint orientations.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of corrosion-resistant stainless steel structures in industrial and chemical environments.
- Fabrication and maintenance of equipment operating at temperatures not lower than 300C.
- Joining 06Cr19Ni9 and 06Cr19Ni11Ti base metals in process piping, tanks, and heat exchangers.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying stainless steel electrodes for industrial applications.
- Fabricators and maintenance teams working with 06Cr19Ni9 and 06Cr19Ni11Ti materials.
- Contractors involved in petrochemical, power generation, and chemical plant construction.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving consistent weld quality on stainless steel joints in all positions without changing electrodes.
- Avoiding intergranular corrosion in welded joints exposed to corrosive media.
- Reducing post-weld cleaning time due to easy slag removal and low spatter.

Use Guide
- Select electrode diameter based on joint thickness and position: 2.0 mm for thin sections, 4.0 mm for heavier sections.
- Use recommended current ranges: 2.0 mm (25-50 A), 2.5 mm (50-80 A), 3.2 mm (80-110 A), 4.0 mm (110-160 A).
- Ensure the joint surfaces are clean and free of oil, grease, rust, and moisture before welding.
- Store electrodes in sealed packaging and re-dry if exposed to humidity before use.
- Remove slag completely between passes to prevent inclusions and ensure a sound weld.
How It Compares
AK-E308-16 and E308-15 both weld Cr18Ni9 stainless steel, but E308-16 uses a rutile coating for better arc stability and easier slag removal, making it more suitable for field welding. Basic-coated E308-15 offers higher toughness and better resistance to cracking but requires stricter drying and has a more aggressive arc. E308-16 is preferred where ease of use and clean weld appearance are priorities.
