AK-E10015-D2 Low Hydrogen Sodium Coated Electrode for High Strength Low Alloy Steel.
A DC reverse connected, all-position electrode for high strength low alloy steel structures with excellent arc stability, low spatter, and good low temperature impact toughness in the weld metal.
Product Overview
AK-E10015-D2 is a low hydrogen sodium type coated electrode designed for welding high strength low alloy steels. It is suitable for all-position welding when used with DC reverse polarity and delivers stable arc performance with minimal spatter.
The electrode produces a clean, easily removable slag and a smooth, visually sound weld bead. The deposited metal meets specified mechanical properties, including high tensile strength and impact toughness at low temperatures, making it appropriate for structural applications requiring reliable performance under stress.
Application: Suitable for low alloy steel structures of corresponding strength welding grades, such as 15MnMoV, 14MnMoNb, etc.
Key Benefits
Stable Arc and Low Spatter.
The low hydrogen sodium coating ensures a stable arc during welding, even at lower current levels, and minimizes spatter, which reduces post-weld cleaning and improves weld appearance.
Easy Slag Removal
The slag formed during welding lifts off easily without requiring extensive chipping, which speeds up inter-pass cleaning and reduces the risk of slag entrapment.
Good Low Temperature Impact Toughness.
The weld metal achieves a minimum impact value of 27 J at minus 30 degrees C, which supports reliable performance in low temperature service environments.
All-Position Welding Capability
AK-E10015-D2 can be used in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions when operated with DC reverse polarity, allowing one electrode to cover multiple joint orientations.

Use Guide
- Select electrode diameter based on joint thickness and position. Use 2.5 mm for thin sections and 5.0 mm for thicker materials.
- Set welding current within the recommended ranges: 60-80 A for 2.5 mm, 80-120 A for 3.2 mm, 140-180 A for 4.0 mm, and 180-220 A for 5.0 mm.
- Always use DC reverse polarity for optimal arc stability and performance.
- Keep electrodes dry in sealed packaging; re-dry if exposed to moisture before use.
- Remove slag completely between passes to prevent inclusions and ensure sound welds.
How It Compares
AK-E10015-D2 and E10016 both belong to the same strength class and are low hydrogen electrodes, but E10015-D2 uses a sodium type coating and requires DC reverse polarity, while E10016 uses a potassium type coating and can be used with AC or DC. E10015-D2 offers better arc stability and lower spatter in all positions, but E10016 may be more forgiving on power supply availability. For applications requiring high impact toughness at low temperatures, E10015-D2 is preferred over rutile or cellulosic electrodes.
