AK-A506NiCu Low Hydrogen Alkaline Electrode for Weathering Steel Welding.
A potassium-type alkaline electrode for all-position welding of 50 kg weathering steel with good atmospheric corrosion resistance and crack resistance.
Product Overview
AK-A506NiCu is a low hydrogen potassium type alkaline low alloy refractory weathering steel electrode designed for manual metal arc welding. It is suitable for welding 50 kg grade weathering steel, including applications in vehicles, offshore engineering structures, and bridges.
The electrode supports AC and DC welding with dual polarity compatibility and performs well in all positions. The deposited weld metal exhibits good atmospheric corrosion resistance, crack resistance, and acceptable plasticity and toughness.
Application: It is suitable for welding of 50kg weathering steel, such as welding of vehicles, offsho re engineering structures and bridges.
Key Benefits
Good Atmospheric Corrosion Resistance.
The weld metal maintains resistance to atmospheric corrosion, making it suitable for outdoor and exposed structural applications where weathering steel is used.
Crack Resistance in Weld Metal.
The electrode produces weld metal with good resistance to cracking, which is important when welding high-strength weathering steels under restraint or in complex joint geometries.
All-Position Welding Capability
AK-A506NiCu can be used in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, allowing a single electrode to cover multiple joint orientations without switching consumables.
Low Hydrogen Performance
The potassium-type alkaline coating ensures low hydrogen content in the deposited metal, reducing the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in susceptible base metals.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of 50 kg grade weathering steel in structural applications.
- Fabrication of vehicles exposed to outdoor conditions.
- Construction of offshore engineering structures and bridge components.
- Maintenance and repair of weathering steel structures in corrosive environments.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying electrodes for weathering steel projects.
- Fabricators working with 50 kg weathering steel in transportation and infrastructure.
- Maintenance teams repairing offshore and bridge structures exposed to atmospheric elements.
Problems It Solves
- Welding 50 kg weathering steel with a filler metal that provides adequate atmospheric corrosion resistance and crack resistance in the weld zone.
- Achieving consistent weld performance across all positions without changing electrode types.
- Reducing the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in high-strength weathering steel joints through low hydrogen electrode selection.

- Chemical composition includes C: 0.12%, Mn: 0.3-0.9%, P: 0.035%, S: 0.030%, Si: 0.70%, Cu: 0.20-0.50%, Ni: 0.20-0.50%
- Available in 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm, 4.0 mm, and 5.0 mm diameters with specified current ranges.
Use Guide
- Select electrode diameter based on joint thickness and position. Use 2.5 mm for thin sections and 5.0 mm for heavier welds.
- Set welding current within the recommended range: 2.5 mm (60-90 A), 3.2 mm (80-120 A), 4.0 mm (150-190 A), 5.0 mm (180-220 A).
- Ensure the electrode is kept dry in sealed packaging. Re-bake if exposed to moisture before use.
- Clean joint surfaces from rust, oil, paint, and moisture before welding to avoid porosity and contamination.
- Remove slag completely between passes to prevent inclusions and ensure sound weld metal.
How It Compares
AK-A506NiCu and E5016-G both meet AWS A5.5 E7016-G and GB/T 5117 E5016-G, but AK-A506NiCu is specifically formulated for weathering steel with added Ni and Cu for enhanced corrosion resistance. Standard E5016-G electrodes are for general low carbon and low alloy steel welding without the specific alloying for atmospheric exposure. The potassium coating in AK-A506NiCu allows AC and DC use, while some basic electrodes require DC only.
