AK-607GX Low-Hydrogen Sodium Electrode for X70 Pipeline and High-Strength Steel Welding.
A low-alloy, high-strength electrode with low-hydrogen sodium coating designed for all-position welding of X70 pipeline steel and equivalent low-alloy structures with stringent sulfur and phosphorus limits.
Product Overview
AK-607GX is a low-alloy, high-strength steel electrode with a low-hydrogen sodium type coating, intended for manual metal arc welding of pipeline steel and low-alloy structural components. It is suitable for all-position welding using direct current reverse polarity (DCRP).
The electrode meets EN ISO 3580-A: E Z CrCoMoV 10 11B 4 2 H5 and AWS A5.5 E9015-G classifications, and is compatible with base metals requiring equivalent strength grades such as X70 pipeline steel and low-alloy steels with low sulfur and phosphorus content.
Application: lt is used for welding of X70 pipeline steel and low alloy steel structures with low S and P requirements of equivalent strength grades.
Key Benefits
Low-Hydrogen Sodium Coating
The sodium-type coating minimizes hydrogen content in the weld metal, reducing the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in high-strength and thick-section applications.
All-Position Welding Capability
AK-607GX performs reliably in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, enabling continuous welding on complex joints without changing consumables.
High Strength and Toughness.
The deposited metal achieves a tensile strength of at least 620 MPa, yield stress of at least 530 MPa, elongation of at least 17 percent, and impact energy of at least 110 J at minus 20 degrees C.
Controlled Chemical Composition
The electrode's chemistry includes precise levels of carbon (0.09%), manganese (1.65%), molybdenum (0.40%), vanadium (0.06%), niobium (0.08%), and titanium (0.025%), with sulfur below 0.006% and phosphorus below 0.020%.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of X70 pipeline steel in oil and gas transmission systems.
- Construction and repair of low-alloy steel structures requiring high strength and low hydrogen.
- Fabrication of pressure vessels and heavy equipment using equivalent strength base metals.
- All-position welding in field and shop environments where crack resistance is critical.
Who It Is For
- Pipeline contractors and EPC firms working with X70 and similar high-strength steels.
- Fabricators of heavy structures requiring low-hydrogen consumables for critical joints.
- Welding distributors supplying high-strength electrodes for demanding industrial applications.
- Maintenance teams working on high-strength steel components with low S and P requirements.
Problems It Solves
- Cracking in high-strength welds due to excessive hydrogen content in the deposited metal.
- Inconsistent performance across welding positions when using electrodes not rated for all-position use.
- Difficulty in meeting low sulfur and phosphorus requirements in base metals with tight chemical specifications.
- Need for multiple electrode types to cover different joint positions and strength grades.

How It Compares
AK-607GX and E9015-G both meet AWS A5.5 E9015-G and are low-hydrogen electrodes for high-strength steels. AK-607GX is specifically formulated for X70 pipeline steel and low-alloy structures with low S and P content. Unlike rutile electrodes, it does not tolerate high moisture or contamination. It is not suitable for AC welding. For applications requiring higher toughness or different strength levels, other classifications such as E9018-G may be considered.
