AK-55M Rutile-Type Flux-Cored Wire for Low-Temperature Structural Welding.

A seamless flux-cored wire with 1% Ni and ultra-low diffusible hydrogen content, designed for high-performance welding of structural steels in cryogenic and offshore applications.

Welding Wire

Product Overview

AK-55M is a rutile-type seamless flux-cored wire containing 1% Ni, formulated for welding structural steels requiring excellent low-temperature impact performance. The deposited metal has ultra-low diffusible hydrogen content, not exceeding 3 ml/100g.

The wire delivers a soft and stable arc, minimal spatter, a smooth weld bead profile, and easy slag removal. It is suitable for welding materials of the same strength level, including 1Ni steel, in applications such as bridges, port machinery, shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and LPG storage tanks.

Application: It is suitable for welding of bridges, port machinery, shipbuilding, offsh ore platforms, LPG storage tank cryogenic equipment, etc. of the same strength lev el, such as welding of 1Ni steel, etc.

Key Benefits

Ultra-Low Diffusible Hydrogen

The deposited metal has a diffusible hydrogen content of no more than 3 ml/100g, reducing the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in critical joints.

Excellent Low-Temperature Impact Performance.

The weld metal maintains high toughness at low temperatures, making it suitable for cryogenic and cold-climate applications.

Stable Arc and Minimal Spatter.

The rutile coating ensures a soft and stable arc, resulting in low spatter and consistent weld quality across all positions.

Easy Slag Removal

The slag forms a clean, easily removable layer that lifts off without requiring extensive chipping or grinding.

Where It Is Used

  • Welding of bridges and steel structures exposed to low temperatures.
  • Fabrication and repair of port machinery and offshore platforms.
  • Shipbuilding and cryogenic equipment such as LPG storage tanks.
  • Welding of 1Ni steel and other low-alloy steels requiring high toughness.

Who It Is For

  • Welding consumable distributors supplying flux-cored wires for structural and offshore projects.
  • Fabricators working with low-alloy and nickel-containing steels in demanding environments.
  • Contractors involved in cryogenic and offshore construction requiring reliable, low-hydrogen welding solutions.

Problems It Solves

  • Welds failing low-temperature impact tests due to high diffusible hydrogen in the deposited metal.
  • Difficult slag removal and excessive spatter to rework and longer cycle times.
  • Inconsistent arc performance on thin or variable thickness joints due to unstable welding characteristics.

  • Chemical composition includes C: 0.12%, Mn: 1.50%, P: 0.04%, S: 0.03%, Si: 0.8%, Ni: 0.80–1.10%, Cr: 0.15%, Mo: 0.35%
  • Complies with EN ISO 17632-A:T 46 4 P M21 1 H5, AWS A5.36 E71T1-M21 A2-CS1, and GB/T 17493 E551T-1M standards.
  • Available in 1.2 mm and 1.6 mm diameters with recommended parameters: 1.2 mm – 20–32 V / 180–300 A; 1.6 mm – 25–35 V / 250–350 A.

Use Guide

  • Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position: 1.2 mm for thin sections and vertical/overhead work, 1.6 mm for thicker materials and higher deposition rates.
  • Set voltage and current within the recommended ranges: 20–32 V and 180–300 A for 1.2 mm; 25–35 V and 250–350 A for 1.6 mm.
  • Ensure the wire is stored in a dry environment and protected from moisture before use.
  • Clean the joint surfaces from oil, rust, paint, and moisture prior to welding to maintain low hydrogen levels and prevent porosity.

How It Compares

AK-55M is a rutile-type flux-cored wire with 1% Ni and ultra-low hydrogen, suitable for structural and cryogenic applications. It differs from basic-type flux-cored wires, which have lower hydrogen but require stricter storage and handling. Compared to solid wires, it offers better slag control and higher deposition efficiency, but requires a shielding gas. It is not intended for use on high-strength steels beyond the specified strength level.
