Solution

Keep the critical load running through the outage

Black-start capable storage with seamless transfer — so a grid failure becomes a flicker instead of a cold restart of a whole process line.

In short. ZCForest microgrid and backup systems use LiFePO4 storage with black-start capability and seamless transfer for critical loads. Systems run from portable 345 Wh units for households up to multi-MWh containers for industrial sites, with PV integration for extended islanded operation.

What it is

The mechanism, not the marketing

Backup is a sizing question before it is a product question: which loads must survive, for how long, and how fast the transfer has to be. ZCForest specifies the answer at three scales — a portable station that keeps a household's essentials running, a cabinet for a small commercial site, and a containerised system that islands a factory. The chemistry, the safety architecture and the support arrangement stay the same across all three.

Backup sizing and peak-shaving sizing pull in opposite directions — one wants energy held in reserve, the other wants it dispatched. Decide which objective is primary before the capacity is fixed.

How we deliver it

Six stages, same on every project

01

Identify critical loads

List what genuinely cannot stop, and for how long. This is usually a shorter list than the first draft suggests, and that shortens the battery.

02

Set the transfer requirement

Seamless transfer for process loads; a short gap is acceptable for lighting and comfort. The requirement drives the topology.

03

Size the island

Capacity against the critical load and the outage duration you are designing for, with PV integration where extended islanding matters.

04

Design the protection

Cell, module, pack and container-level protection, thermal monitoring, smoke detection and fire-suppression options specified for the site.

05

Commission and test

Commissioning includes proving the transfer, not just energising the system. Manuals in English and Chinese, plus operation videos.

06

Train and support

Operator training covering fault identification, routine maintenance and safety procedures, with 24/7 remote diagnosis afterwards.

Outcomes

What changes on site

Process continuity

Seamless transfer keeps critical loads energised, so an outage does not become a cold restart with scrapped work in progress.

Black-start capability

The system can bring the island up without the grid, rather than waiting for it to return.

Silent, indoor-safe backup

No combustion, no exhaust and no fuel storage — LiFePO4 backup can live where a generator cannot.

Extended islanding with PV

Solar integration stretches an island from hours into days where generation and load allow.

FAQ

About microgrid & backup power

How long can the system run islanded?
Capacity divided by critical load, plus whatever PV contributes. A four-hour design and a two-day design are very different systems, so the duration has to be decided before sizing.
Is it safe to install indoors?
LiFePO4 chemistry has a far more benign thermal-runaway profile than nickel-rich alternatives, and systems carry protection at cell, module, pack and container level. Local code still governs the installation location.
Can it replace our diesel generator?
For most outage profiles, yes — silently and without fuel logistics. For multi-day outages at full site load, a battery sized to match would be very large; that comparison is part of the design conversation.
What happens if a fault occurs at 02:00?
Alarm management and live telemetry route to your operations centre, with ZCForest's 24/7 remote fault diagnosis available in English and Chinese.
