Overview

What This Machine Does

The SB series are column tapping machines that feed the tap through a gear train matched to the thread pitch rather than relying on the operator to follow the thread. SB6516 taps up to M16 on an 85 mm column with a 257.5 mm distance from spindle axis to column, and SB6532 taps up to M32 on a 95 mm column at 252.5 mm. Both use an MT3 spindle with 65 mm of spindle travel. SB6516 runs three spindle speeds at 250 400 and 590 r/min from a 1.5 kW motor; SB6532 and SB6532A offer three speeds from either a 6-pole motor at 80 150 and 280 r/min or a 4-pole motor at 120 220 and 420 r/min, rated 1.5 kW and 2.2 kW respectively. Auto feeding covers metric pitches from 1.0 mm to 3.5 mm and inch pitches from 19 to 7 TPI depending on model. SB6532A is the head-only version at 130 kg net for mounting on your own base.

Key Benefits

Why Buyers Choose This Machine

  • Pitch matched gear feed drives the tap at its own lead so the thread is not stretched or torn
  • Three spindle speeds per model let you drop the speed for large threads and hard material
  • Capacity to M32 on SB6532 covers structural and hydraulic thread sizes a drill press cannot tap
  • Choice of 6-pole or 4-pole motor on SB6532 sets the speed band to your usual work
  • Metric pitches from 1.0 mm to 3.5 mm and inch pitches from 19 to 7 TPI on one machine
  • SB6532A supplies the head alone at 130 kg net for mounting on an existing bench or line
  • MT3 spindle takes standard tapping attachments already in most shops
Application

Where Gear Type Teeth Distance Tapping Machine SB6516 Earns Its Place

Problems It Solves

  • Hand tapping above M16 is heavy slow work and taps break in deep blind holes
  • Feeding a tap by hand on a drill press stretches the pitch and gives loose threads
  • Switching between metric and inch thread work otherwise means two machines
  • Large threads run too fast on a general drilling machine and burn the tap
  • Fixed floor machines waste space when only the head is needed on an existing line

Who It Is For

  • Machine shops tapping medium and large threads in batches
  • Hydraulic and valve component manufacturers
  • Fabricators who need repeatable inch and metric threads on the same machine
  • Distributors supplying bench and column tapping machines

Application Scenarios

  • Batch tapping of flanges valve bodies and hydraulic blocks up to M32
  • Production tapping of inch threads on parts for export markets
  • Threading pre-drilled holes in machined castings in a subcontract shop
  • Mounting the SB6532A head on a purpose-built fixture or line station
  • Small and medium batch thread work where hand tapping has become the bottleneck

Manufacturing and Supply

How It Is Built and What Can Be Changed

Operations Performed

  • Tapping
  • Thread cutting

Quality Control

  • Gear feed checked against each listed pitch before the machine leaves assembly
  • Spindle run-out and MT3 taper seating verified on the assembled head
  • All three spindle speeds run and motor current checked
  • Sample threads cut and gauged at the rated capacity
  • Paint and packing checked against the declared case dimensions and weight

Customisation Options

  • SB6516 or SB6532 chosen by your largest thread size M16 or M32
  • 6-pole or 4-pole motor on SB6532 to set the spindle speed band
  • With or without stand which changes the shipping weight from 400 kg to 650 kg gross

  • Supply voltage frequency and operating language set for your market
Comparison

How It Compares With the Alternatives

Tapping on a pillar drilling machineA drill press feeds by hand or by a general feed rate; the SB machines feed the tap at its own pitch through gears which is what protects the thread form in deep holes
Arm type tapping machine SRM-M24The arm machine reaches out to large fixed parts up to M24; the SB column machine is more rigid and goes to M32 but the part has to come to the machine
Hand tappingAbove M16 hand tapping is slow and inconsistent; the SB6532 does the same thread under power with the pitch set by gears
Use Guide

Running the Machine

Step 1

Set the machine on its stand or bolt the SB6532A head to your own base

Step 2

Select the gear set for the thread pitch you are cutting metric or TPI

Step 3

Choose one of the three spindle speeds low for M24 and above

Step 4

Clamp the part on the base table and align the pre-drilled hole under the spindle

Step 5

Feed the tap in under the gear drive and let the pitch lead the spindle

Step 6

Reverse to withdraw and clear chips before the next hole

Step 7

Gauge the first thread of each batch before running the rest

FAQ

Questions About Gear Type Teeth Distance Tapping Machine SB6

What is the difference between SB6532 and SB6532A?

SB6532 is the complete machine with column and base at 400 kg net without the stand. SB6532A is the head unit at 130 kg net for mounting on your own base or line station.

Can it tap inch threads?

Yes. Auto feeding covers 19 18 16 14 13 12 11 10 9 8 and 7 TPI as well as metric pitches from 1.0 mm to 3.5 mm depending on the model.

Should I take the 6-pole or the 4-pole motor?

The 6-pole motor gives 80 150 and 280 r/min at 1.5 kW for larger threads; the 4-pole gives 120 220 and 420 r/min at 2.2 kW for faster work on smaller threads. Tell us your usual thread size and material and we will advise.

What tooling does the spindle take?

The spindle is MT3 on all three models so standard MT3 tapping attachments and holders fit. Tell us your thread range and we will quote a holder set.

How is the machine packed and how heavy is the shipment?

Wooden case. SB6516 packs at 106 x 64 x 132 cm without the stand. SB6532 is 400 kg net without the stand and 600 kg net with it. We confirm final case size and gross weight on the proforma invoice.

How long is the lead time?

Lead time depends on the model motor option and whether a stand is included. Send us the model and quantity and we will confirm a shipment date with the quotation.

What are your trade and payment terms?

We quote FOB CFR and CIF. Payment is 30 percent by T/T with the order and 70 percent before shipment, or an irrevocable L/C at sight.
