Mould Design & Moldflow Analysis

The argument about gating happens on screen, not on the shop floor

Overview

A predictive model of how molten material behaves inside the cavity, run before the tool is cut. Advanced flow analysis settles gate position, runner balance and cooling while those decisions are still cheap. Paired with the DFM report, it is the step that keeps a tooling programme from being rescued at T1.

Problems

What This Fixes

  • Weld lines and sink marks discovered on the first trial shot
  • Cavity imbalance in a multi-cavity tool that nobody modelled
  • Cycle times inflated by cooling that was laid out by habit
  • Design flaws and errors carried into steel because no DFM report was produced

Benefits

What You Get

  • Flow behaviour analysed before production, so precision is designed in
  • The DFM report identifies flaws and errors before the process starts
  • Gate, runner and cooling decisions are documented rather than assumed
  • The engineers who model the tool are the ones who will sample it

Who For

Suited To

  • Design teams sending a part out to tooling for the first time
  • Buyers who have been burned by a T1 that needed three corrections
  • Anyone quoting a multi-cavity tool where balance decides the yield

Scenarios

Typical Jobs

  • A thin-wall part where fill pressure is the deciding constraint
  • A cosmetic surface where a weld line would be a visible reject
  • A multi-cavity consumable tool that has to fill evenly across all cavities

Technical

How It Runs

  • Predictive modelling of molten material behaviour inside the mould
  • DFM report issued to review your design and identify flaws before production
  • Gating, runner balance and cooling layout resolved at design stage
  • Outcome carried straight into tooling production in the same shop

Order Process

How This Job Would Run

The same eight stages apply whether the order is a single tool or a production programme.

Request A Quote

Send the part drawing or 3D file by email. An engineer comes back within 24 hours with a consultation, not an auto-reply.

DFM Report

Before any steel is cut we return a design-for-manufacture report that flags flaws and errors in the design, so they are fixed on paper.

Mould Design & Moldflow

A predictive model analyses how the molten material behaves inside the cavity. Flow analysis settles gating and cooling before tooling.

Mould Tooling Production

Tooling is cut from the steel grade chosen for the application, not from whatever is on the rack.

T1 Sample Inspection

First-trial samples go out for your inspection and review. Errors are identified on T1, before mass production is committed.

Low Volume Production

A low-volume run follows the trial phase, so precision is proven on real machines under expert surveillance before the ramp.

Strict Inspection

Parts are inspected against international tolerance standards and against the specification you supplied.

Delivery

Parts are packaged to survive the journey and released through our logistics partners on a scheduled delivery.

Questions

About Mould Design & Moldflow Analysis

Do I get the DFM report before committing?

The DFM report is produced to review the design and identify flaws and errors before the production process starts. Ask for it as part of the quotation conversation.

What does flow analysis actually change?

It settles where the material enters, how the cavities balance and how the tool cools. Those three decisions account for most of the defects that appear at T1.

Can you work from our existing tool design?

Yes. Send the design and we will review it and report back on what we would change and why.
