MIM & Investment Casting

Small, complex metal parts that machining would make expensive

Electrical discharge machining equipment in the precision tool room

Wisdom Industrial · since 2012

Overview

Metal injection moulding and investment casting for small, complex metal components across stainless steel, carbon steel, iron, alloy steel and ceramic. These processes exist for the parts where machining the geometry would cost more than the part is worth, and where casting a simpler shape would mean redesigning the product around the process.

Problems

What This Fixes

  • Small metal parts whose machining time is out of proportion to their size
  • Complex geometry that would need multiple setups to machine
  • Metal components sourced from a vendor unconnected to the rest of the product
  • Ceramic or specialist material parts with no obvious supply route

Benefits

What You Get

  • Five listed material families including ceramic alongside the steels
  • Suited to complex geometry that would be slow and costly to machine
  • Available inside the same one-stop contract as your moulded and machined parts
  • CNC machining on site for finishing operations after casting

Who For

Suited To

  • Engineers with small, geometrically complex metal components
  • Buyers converting a machined part to a cast or moulded metal process for volume
  • Teams needing ceramic components alongside metal ones

Scenarios

Typical Jobs

  • A small complex steel component produced in volume rather than machined
  • A ceramic part specified for wear or thermal reasons
  • A metal component finished by machining on critical features only

Technical

How It Runs

  • Metal injection moulding for small, complex components
  • Investment casting across steel and iron grades
  • Ceramic available within the listed material range
  • Post-process CNC machining and surface finishing on the same site

Order Process

How This Job Would Run

The same eight stages apply whether the order is a single tool or a production programme.

Request A Quote

Send the part drawing or 3D file by email. An engineer comes back within 24 hours with a consultation, not an auto-reply.

DFM Report

Before any steel is cut we return a design-for-manufacture report that flags flaws and errors in the design, so they are fixed on paper.

Mould Design & Moldflow

A predictive model analyses how the molten material behaves inside the cavity. Flow analysis settles gating and cooling before tooling.

Mould Tooling Production

Tooling is cut from the steel grade chosen for the application, not from whatever is on the rack.

T1 Sample Inspection

First-trial samples go out for your inspection and review. Errors are identified on T1, before mass production is committed.

Low Volume Production

A low-volume run follows the trial phase, so precision is proven on real machines under expert surveillance before the ramp.

Strict Inspection

Parts are inspected against international tolerance standards and against the specification you supplied.

Delivery

Parts are packaged to survive the journey and released through our logistics partners on a scheduled delivery.

Questions

About MIM & Investment Casting

Which materials are available?

Stainless steel, carbon steel, iron, alloy steel and ceramic are the listed materials for our MIM and investment casting work.

When is MIM better than machining?

When the part is small, the geometry is complex and the volume is real. Send the drawing and the annual quantity and we will say which route is cheaper.

Can these parts be finished on site?

Yes. CNC machining and post-treatment including plating and painting are available within the group.
