What To Send Us So The Quote Comes Back Right
Most quote delays are caused by missing information rather than by difficult boards. This is the list of what we need, why each item matters, and what we assume if you do not tell us.

The Files
Send Gerber RS-274X plus an NC drill file, or an ODB++ package if your CAD tool exports one. ODB++ carries the netlist and the stack-up in one container, which removes a whole class of misunderstanding. If you can only send one format, send ODB++.
Do not send PDFs of the layers. A PDF is a picture of a board, not a manufacturable description of one.
The Parameters We Cannot Read From The Files
| Item | Why it matters | What we assume if unstated |
|---|---|---|
| Layer count | Sets the whole process route | Read from the file set, confirmed back to you |
| Finished board thickness | Fixed by connectors and slots | Queried before quoting |
| Copper weight | Current capacity and etch compensation | 1 oz outer copper |
| Surface finish | Assembly behaviour and shelf life | Queried before quoting |
| Solder mask colour | Cosmetic and sometimes specified | Green |
| Legend colour | Readability against the mask | White |
| Quantity | Panel layout and price break | Queried before quoting |
| Delivery format | Singles or array with rails | Queried before quoting |
Mechanical Information
Put the board outline on its own mechanical layer, and flag non-plated holes clearly. If the board needs an array, say whether you want V-cut or routed tabs and give the rail width your assembly line needs. If you do not have a preference, tell us the machine and we will suggest one.
Controlled Impedance
If any net needs controlled impedance, send the target value and the tolerance per net, along with the stack-up you intend. Impedance is a property of the whole stack, so it cannot be added after the board is tooled.
For An Assembled Board
- Bill of materials with approved manufacturer part numbers, not generic descriptions
- Marked alternates where you will accept them
- Which lines you want to consign and which we should buy
- Pick and place file with the component orientation reference
- Assembly drawing showing polarity and any height restrictions
- Test specification if you need functional test
What Happens Next
Your data is checked against our published capability before anything is tooled. Anything outside it is raised with you rather than quietly adjusted, because a quiet adjustment turns into a board that is not the board you designed.

Questions About This Topic
What file format do you prefer?
ODB++ if your tool exports it, otherwise Gerber RS-274X with an NC drill file.
Do you need a schematic?
Not for fabrication. For assembly, an assembly drawing and a pick and place file are more useful than a schematic.
Will you tell me if my design breaks a rule?
Yes. Anything outside our published capability is raised before tooling.
Have A Board That This Guide Does Not Answer
Send the files and the question. We will tell you what the published capability allows and where your design sits against it.
