Slip Rings for Industrial Robot Joints and Multi Axis Systems

Multi-axis robots move material to defined positions all day. Every axis that turns without limit needs its drive power, its sensor lines and its fieldbus to pass through the joint.

Industry Pain Points

What Goes Wrong on These Axes

Constraint 1

A robot wrist has almost no space left for the rotating connector once the drive and the gearbox are in.

Constraint 2

Cable management that limits rotation to ±180° forces unwinding moves that cost cycle time.

Constraint 3

Cleanroom, food and washdown cells add sealing and material constraints on top of the electrical requirement.

How INGIANT answers it

INGIANT slip rings transmit the power and data of the individual drives and connect the sensors in every section of the robot arm. Fast rotation, maintenance-free operation, high temperature resistance and compact dimensions are what these designs are built for.

FAQ

Industrial Robotics Questions

Which slip ring type suits a robot wrist?

A capsule unit is usually the right answer because the envelope is small and the leads come straight out of both ends. Where a shaft or a cable bundle has to pass through the axis, a through bore unit is used instead.

Can I run a fieldbus through the joint?

Yes. Ethernet, Profibus, Profinet and CANopen class signals are carried on dedicated signal rings, and Gigabit Ethernet has its own DHS series.

Do robot slip rings need maintenance?

No. The contact system is designed to run maintenance-free for the rated life.

Specify a Rotating Connection for Industrial Robotics

Send the rotating speed, the installation envelope, the circuit count, the signal types, the temperature range and the IP requirement and INGIANT comes back with a design.
