Battery-Powered Smart Water Meters
Why start-up time is an energy specification, not a convenience one.
In a battery-powered static meter, almost all the energy goes into transmitting. Every measurement excites the transducer, waits for the echo, and does it again in the opposite direction. A transducer that takes longer to start and returns a soft edge forces a longer transmit burst and more averaging - and that is measured directly in years of battery life.
Our liquid flow transducers are specified as starting up quickly with a signal that is easy to identify, which is the property that shortens that window. Smart water meter flow monitoring is their primary named application.
Sensors for this application

Ultrasonic Flow Sensor 1MHz
A 1 MHz transit-time transducer pair that starts up quickly and returns an easily identified signal edge, so the metering ASIC can lock onto the upstream and downstream arrival times without long averaging.

Ultrasonic Flow Sensor 2MHz
A 2 MHz transit-time transducer with a metal-faced housing: the shorter wavelength gives finer timing resolution on a short acoustic path, and the metal face takes the pressure and the wetted duty.

Send the geometry and the two states you need to tell apart. We will say whether the echo difference is usable before you build a fixture.
