Process Guide
Corona Treatment and Printing on Corrugated Plastic
Why 45 dynes matters and what happens if you skip it

Polypropylene Rejects Ink by Default
Untreated polypropylene has a low surface energy, so inks and adhesives bead up instead of wetting the surface. A print that looks fine when it leaves the press scratches off later.
What Corona Treatment Does
During extrusion the sheet passes a corona discharge that etches both surfaces, raising the surface energy to a 45 dyne level. That is the level the screen printing and advertising markets require for reliable ink adhesion and for self-adhesive vinyl application.
Because the treatment happens on the extrusion line, printing grade has to be ordered as a grade. It cannot be added to plain stock afterwards.
Handling Treated Stock
Corona treatment has a working life. Print the stock rather than holding it in the warehouse for a long period first, keep it dry and clean, and avoid touching the print face with bare hands.
What You Can Print
Corona treated board at 45 dynes suits screen printing and digital printing, and it takes self-adhesive vinyl. Typical work includes printed exhibits, political and election signs, special event signage, advertising board, real estate signs, lawn decoration, indoor and outdoor signs and special displays.
If You Do Not Print In-House
We can supply a professional printing service according to your advertising needs, so the boards can arrive printed rather than blank.
