Name the Certificate Level
A certificate discovered to be the wrong type at site delays acceptance for weeks. The level is fixed at order stage, from a mill test certificate through an EN 10204 3.1 certificate to full third party inspection.
Select the Inspection Body
Different projects accept different agencies, and an unnamed inspector is no inspector. Material is approved by third party inspection agencies including DNV, BV, SGS, TUV, ABS, LR, GL, RINA, KR, NKK, AIB-VINCOTTE, CEIL, VELOSO and CCSI. Name yours on the order.
Apply the Works Approvals
European and marine projects require approvals that a general supplier does not hold. The works carries PED 2014/68/EU pressure equipment certification, AD 2000 W0 German TUV certification, China Classification Society CCS certification, the China special equipment manufacturing licence at TS grades A1 A2 and B, and quality environment and occupational health system certification.
Verify Chemistry and Mechanicals
A certificate without test data behind it is a formality rather than a control. Chemistry is checked against the ordered specification and mechanical properties such as tensile and yield strength are confirmed by test, with the results recorded against the heat.
Check Dimensions and Defects
Wall thickness at the pipe end is often uneven after rolling, and a collapsed end is not visible from outside. Pipe ends are checked and cropped where necessary, using camera and image processing to identify collapsed pipe wall before a laser wall thickness gauge is passed into the bore.
Release Against the File
Documents that arrive after the goods hold the goods at the port. The certificate file is completed before release and travels with the shipment, so customs and the site inspector are working from the same paperwork.
