What This Product Is For
Nickel 200 seamless pipe is commercially pure wrought nickel supplied to ASTM B161 under UNS N02200. It is the standard choice for caustic, chlorine and food contact service where an alloyed stainless would pick up metallic contamination. The same programme covers Nickel 201 welded tube for lower carbon, cold formed duty, in sizes from 1/8 inch to 30 inch.
Key Benefits
- Commercially pure nickel resists hot caustic soda at concentrations that attack austenitic stainless steel
- Low gas content and low vapour pressure suit vacuum and electronic assemblies
- High thermal and electrical conductivity for heat transfer and plater bar duty
- Seamless and welded options in one size range, so a whole circuit can come from one supplier
- PED approved supply for buyers who need EU pressure equipment paperwork

Who It Is For
- Chlor alkali and caustic plant engineers specifying corrosion resistant piping
- Heat exchanger fabricators building nickel tube bundles
- EU importers who need PED approved material
- Distributors stocking pure nickel pipe and tube
Problems It Solves
- Stainless steel piping that thins rapidly in hot concentrated caustic
- Product contamination from iron and chromium leaching into a process stream
- Mixed sourcing when seamless pipe and welded tube are bought from different mills
- Missing EU pressure paperwork that stalls a shipment at import
Application Scenarios
- Caustic evaporators and concentrators handling sodium hydroxide
- Chlorine and chloride process lines in chlor alkali plants
- Food and pharmaceutical process piping where iron pick up is unacceptable
- Plater bars and electronic components that need conductivity plus corrosion resistance

Materials
- Commercially pure wrought nickel, 99.6 percent nickel
Manufacturing Process
- Seamless extrusion and drawing
- Tube welding
- Bending
- Annealing
Quality Control
- Chemistry checked against the ASTM B161 UNS N02200 limits
- Dimensional check on outside diameter and wall across the ordered size
- Mill test certificate supplied with each heat
- PED documentation prepared where the order calls for it
Customisation Options
- Seamless or welded construction on the same grade
- Cut lengths and coil lengths on request
- Nickel 201 substituted where deep drawing or spinning is planned
Use Guide
- Choose Nickel 200 for service below about 315 C, and Nickel 201 above it because of the lower carbon
- Weld with matching nickel filler and keep the joint free of sulphur bearing marking pens and cutting fluids
- Pickle after welding before returning the line to caustic service
- Store away from carbon steel to avoid iron smearing the surface
How It Compares With the Alternatives
| 316L stainless steel pipe | Nickel 200 holds up in hot concentrated caustic where 316L thins and cracks, and it does not shed chromium or iron into the product |
|---|---|
| Nickel 201 tube | Nickel 201 has the same composition with lower carbon, lower base hardness and a lower work hardening rate, so it is the better pick for spinning and cold forming |
| Monel 400 pipe | Monel adds copper for seawater and hydrofluoric acid duty, while Nickel 200 stays pure for caustic and high purity service |
