What This Product Is For
A stainless steel elbow changes direction in a piping system. The standard set is 45, 90 and 180 degree in long radius, plus 90 and 180 degree in short radius, with 3D and 5D bends available where a gentler change is needed. Elbows are produced seamless and welded to ASTM A403 and ASME B16.9 from DN10 to DN1200, in grades from 304 through to super duplex S32760.
Key Benefits
- Full set of angles and radii from one supplier, so a spool does not mix vendors
- Long radius reduces pressure drop and erosion compared with short radius on the same turn
- 3D and 5D options for slurry and abrasive duty where the standard radius wears out
- Fourteen grades covering austenitic, duplex and super duplex service
- Stock items ship in 7 days, non stock in 15 days

Who It Is For
- Pipe spool fabricators buying butt weld fittings
- Piping designers working to ASME B16.9 centre to face dimensions
- Maintenance teams replacing eroded bends
- Distributors stocking elbows across grades and radii
Problems It Solves
- Erosion at short radius bends on abrasive service
- Fittings that do not match the centre to face dimension on the isometric
- Grade gaps when a project moves from 316L to duplex
- Delay when a single missing elbow holds up a spool
Application Scenarios
- Process piping direction changes inside plant
- Tight spool work where a short radius elbow is the only fit
- Abrasive or slurry lines needing a 3D or 5D bend
- Duplex and super duplex piping in chloride service

Manufacturing Process
- Hot forming
- Forging
- Bevel machining
- Pickling
Quality Control
- Centre to face distance checked against the ASME B16.9 table for the size and radius
- Wall thickness measured at the extrados where forming thins the section
- Grade verified against the ASTM A403 designation ordered
- Third party inspection by SGS arranged on request
Certification
- ISO 9001:2000
- API
- SGS
Customisation Options
- Angle and radius selected from 45, 90 and 180 degree in LR, SR, 3D or 5D
- Seamless or welded construction
- Packing in wooden case, on pallet or to your own specification
Use Guide
- Check the centre to face distance for the size and radius before detailing the spool
- Pick long radius as the default, short radius only where space forces it
- Use 3D or 5D where the line carries solids
- Order from stock where the schedule is tight, since stock items ship in 7 days
How It Compares With the Alternatives
| Short radius elbow | A long radius elbow turns over a greater centre to face distance, which lowers pressure drop and erosion, while a short radius fits into tighter spool work |
|---|---|
| 3D and 5D bend | 3D and 5D bends turn over an even longer radius and are chosen for abrasive and slurry service |
| Mitred bend | A formed elbow has a smooth bore with no welded segments, so it resists erosion and is easier to inspect |
