Why This Sequence Exists

Buying standard mill lengths and cutting them on site wastes material twice, in the offcut and in the extra welds. This is how a made to size order is set up so the material arrives ready to install.

  1. Take the Cut List

Fixed random lengths leave offcuts that cannot be used and add field joints that each need inspection. Pipe is cut anywhere from 1000 mm to 13000 mm, bar from 0.3 m to 12 m, and sheet to any length within 1000 to 12000 mm, so the delivery matches the drawing.

  2. Set the Section

A round section is not always the right one, and buying square tube separately splits the order across suppliers. Round, square and rectangular sections are produced in the same grades, square from 20 x 20 mm to 500 x 500 mm and rectangular from 20 x 30 mm to 400 x 600 mm.

  3. Choose the Surface

Surface condition is often left as a word, which produces a dispute at delivery. We record the surface on the order as a defined condition: mill pickled, 180, 240 or 320 grit polished, 2B, BA, No.4, hairline at 180 to 240 grit, or No.8 mirror to EN 10088-2 2P and ASTM A480.

  4. Agree the Tolerance

Rolled thickness is usually under the nominal figure, and negative tolerance plate sold on theoretical weight surprises buyers who did not ask. The tolerance is stated at quotation, so the balance between accuracy and cost is a decision you make rather than one you discover.

  5. Confirm the Minimum

Small orders across many specifications do not reach a mill run. The minimum is 1 ton per specification on 304 sheet and 1000 kg on 316L bar, and we will say plainly when consolidating specifications is the better route.

  6. Schedule the Run

A promised date that ignores the production queue is worse than a longer honest one. Stock fittings ship in 7 days, non stock in 15 days, made to order sheet and reducers in 15 to 20 days according to quantity, and 304 sheet 7 days after the deposit is received.

FAQ

Made to Size Mill Supply Questions

What is the minimum order quantity
1 ton per specification on 304 sheet and 1000 kg on 316L bar. Other items are quoted against the size and quantity.
Can you cut to a drawing rather than to standard lengths
Yes. Pipe is cut from 1000 mm to 13000 mm, bar from 0.3 m to 12 m and sheet to any length within the 1000 to 12000 mm range.
How long does a made to order run take
15 to 20 days according to order quantity on sheet and reducers, 7 days after receipt of the deposit on 304 sheet, and 15 days on non stock fittings.
Why does my plate measure less than the nominal thickness
The roll deforms slightly as it heats, so rolled plate is generally thicker in the middle and thinner at the edges and often finishes under the nominal figure. That deviation is the tolerance, and it should be agreed before ordering.
Can you supply square and rectangular tube as well as round
Yes, in the same grades. Square from 20 x 20 mm to 500 x 500 mm and rectangular from 20 x 30 mm to 400 x 600 mm.
