What This Product Is For
A stainless steel reducer changes pipe diameter in one direction. The concentric type is normally used in vertical lines and the eccentric type in horizontal lines, where the flat side is set top flat or bottom flat depending on whether the line needs to drain or vent. Reducers are forged and hot formed from DN12 to DN1200 in wall thicknesses from SCH 5S up to SCH XXS.
Key Benefits
- Concentric and eccentric types from the same supplier so a whole spool can be bought together
- Bottom flat eccentric reducers keep the pipe rack elevation constant, which saves re-supporting the run
- Forged and hot formed construction rather than fabricated from plate
- Ten austenitic grades available from 201 through 321
- Covered by DIN, JIS B2311 and ASME B16.9 so it fits European, Japanese and American detailing

Who It Is For
- Pipe spool fabricators buying fittings by the set
- Piping designers detailing pump suction and rack transitions
- Plant maintenance teams replacing corroded carbon steel reducers
- Distributors stocking butt weld fittings across the DN range
Problems It Solves
- Air pockets at pump suction when a concentric reducer is used in a horizontal line
- Elevation changes in a pipe rack caused by the wrong reducer orientation
- Mixed standards on one project where DIN, JIS and ASME fittings are needed
- Long waits on large diameter reducers above DN600
Application Scenarios
- Pump suction lines where an eccentric reducer prevents a vapour pocket
- Vertical riser transitions between two pipe sizes
- Pipe rack runs that must hold a constant bottom of pipe elevation
- Process spools built to ASME B16.9 dimensions

- Any of the ten grades from 201 through 321
- Packing and shipping mode selected as FCL, LCL or bulk
Use Guide
- Use a concentric reducer in vertical lines and an eccentric reducer in horizontal lines
- Declare top flat or bottom flat on the isometric so the fitting is welded the right way up
- Choose bottom flat in pipe racks to hold a constant bottom of pipe elevation
- Match schedule and grade to the connecting pipe so the weld preparation lines up
How It Compares With the Alternatives
| Concentric reducer | A concentric reducer keeps the centre lines aligned and suits vertical lines, an eccentric reducer offsets the centre line so a horizontal line can drain or vent |
|---|---|
| Fabricated plate reducer | Forged and hot formed reducers have no longitudinal seam and hold their wall thickness through the taper |
| Carbon steel reducer | Stainless keeps its bore clean in wet or corrosive service, where a carbon reducer scales and restricts flow |
