Long-Rod Type Suspension Insulators SL-33/40
40 kN Long-Rod Porcelain Insulator With 530 mm Creepage
View specificationsMost Insulator Failures Start as Selection Failures
Most insulator failures are selection failures: creepage specified for a cleaner site than the line actually crosses, a coupling that does not match the string already on the tower, or a punctured porcelain unit nobody can see from the ground. We publish the full mechanical and electrical figures for every type so those decisions can be made before the order, not after the outage.
Pollution Flashover on an Existing Line
A line built with standard-profile discs starts flashing over once a cement works, a mine road or a coastline changes the deposit on the sheds. The published creepage per unit, from 190 mm to 850 mm depending on type, is what lets you recalculate the string before specifying a replacement.
Punctured Units Nobody Can See
A punctured porcelain cap and pin disc stays in the string and looks normal from the ground. Toughened glass shatters when it punctures and long-rods have no cement joint in the dielectric path, so both remove that inspection problem in different ways.
Couplings That Do Not Match the Tower
Replacement discs arrive with a 20 mm ball when the string uses 16 mm, or a ball and socket when the line is built on clevis hardware. Every type in this catalogue states its coupling, spacing and shed diameter so the match is checked on paper.
Busbar Supports Sized Without the Torsion Check
Station posts are often selected on voltage alone, then fail when a disconnector is operated. Cantilever strength and torsion strength are both published here, 46 kN and 1500 N-m on the C6-170, so the mechanical case can be closed properly.

- Designs covering system voltages up to 500 kV AC and 400 kV DC
- GB, ANSI, BS, DIN, AS and IEC standard designs supplied against one order
- Manufacturing certified to ISO 9001:2015
- Engineering support for non-standard designs when no catalogue item fits
- Routine test records issued with the shipment and type test reports on request
- Units marked with type designation and production identification for traceability
Where the Catalogue Stops and Engineering Starts
Three routes we work through with buyers when the item number alone does not answer the question.
Non-Standard Insulator Design
Catalogue designs cover the standard cases. When an application falls outside GB, ANSI, BS, DIN, AS or IEC standard designs, our engineers work with you on an insulator for that specific application.
See how it worksPollution Performance Selection
Most insulator problems in service are contamination problems. Choosing a profile is not about buying the longest creepage figure; it is about matching the shed geometry to the deposit the line actually collects.
See how it worksStandards Compliant Sourcing
Buyers rarely have one standard across a whole network. Zhaotong produces to GB, ANSI, BS, DIN, AS and IEC standard designs, so a single order can cover an ANSI distribution network and an IEC transmission line without two supply chains.

What the Black RF Glaze on an Insulator Actually Does
Semiconductor RF glaze standardises the potential gradient across the insulator surface so capacitive arcs do not generate radio frequency noise.

How Insulator Glaze Colour Is Determined
Colour has no effect on electrical or mechanical performance, but ANSI grey is defined to a Munsell notation with stated tolerances.
