Glass Fog Profile Suspension Insulators U160BP / 155

160 kN Fog Disc With 550 mm Creepage on a 155 mm Spacing

U160BP / 155 is a 160 kN toughened glass fog disc built on a 320 mm shed with 550 mm of creepage and a 155 mm unit spacing. The short spacing keeps string length down while holding the long leakage path, which matters when tower window clearance is fixed and the line still has to survive a polluted environment. Net weight is about 9.0 kg per unit.

Key Benefits

  • 550 mm creepage on a 155 mm spacing packs leakage distance into a short string
  • 160 kN failing load with an 80 kN tension proof covers most single-conductor tension strings
  • 90 kV dry and 55 kV wet power-frequency withstand
  • Glass shell makes a punctured unit self-evident during a line patrol

Technical Features

  • 320 mm fog profile shed with deep under-ribs
  • 155 mm unit spacing
  • 20 mm ball and socket coupling
  • 140 kV dry lightning impulse withstand voltage

Application Scenarios

  • Retrofit of existing towers where the string length cannot grow
  • Substation entry spans near cement plants and refineries
  • Coastal distribution and sub-transmission lines with salt deposit

Who It Is For

  • Line refurbishment contractors replacing polluted porcelain strings
  • Utilities upgrading pollution class without redesigning the tower
  • Distributors stocking a mid-strength fog disc

Problems It Solves

  • Pollution flashover on lines whose original creepage was specified for a cleaner site
  • Tower window clearance limits that rule out adding more units
  • Unpredictable service life of strings that cannot be inspected for punctures
Comparison

How This Design Differs From the Alternatives

Compared With U160BP / 170

Same 160 kN rating, but the 155 mm spacing on a 320 mm shed keeps the string shorter while giving 550 mm of creepage instead of 450 mm.

Compared With LXP-120 / U120BL standard disc

Roughly 70 percent more creepage for the same family of tower hardware, at the cost of a larger shed diameter.

Use Guide

Specifying and Installing This Unit

  • Work out the required specific creepage from the site pollution class, then divide by 550 mm to get the unit count
  • Confirm the tower window will take the resulting string length at maximum swing
  • Do not mix fog and standard profile units in the same string
  • Store on the cap, stacked upright, and keep the sheds clear of grit before assembly
Questions Buyers Ask

Questions About This Product

What is the difference between the 155 and the 170 version?

Both are 160 kN units. The 155 version has a 320 mm shed with 550 mm creepage on a 155 mm spacing. The 170 version has a 280 mm shed with 450 mm creepage on a 170 mm spacing. Choose on creepage requirement and available string length.

Can this replace a porcelain disc one for one?

Only if the coupling designation, spacing and electrical ratings all match your existing string. Send us the string drawing and the porcelain type you are replacing and we will confirm before you commit.

How much creepage per kV should we allow?

That comes from your site pollution class in IEC 60815 or your utility standard, not from the insulator. We supply the 550 mm figure per unit so you can complete that calculation.

Is the glass toughened or annealed?

The shell is toughened glass, which is why a punctured unit shatters and remains visible instead of failing silently.

What test reports come with the shipment?

Routine test results for the production lot are issued with the shipment. Type test reports against the applicable IEC or GB standard are available on request before the order is placed.
