Insulators for Overhead Transmission Lines
Transmission strings carry the conductor and the line tension while holding off the system voltage in whatever air the route passes through. Zhaotong supplies the disc, long-rod and glass insulators these strings are built from, for systems up to 500 kV AC and 400 kV DC.
Talk To An EngineerWhat Goes Wrong on These Assets
- Pollution flashover on routes whose creepage was specified before a nearby plant or road was built
- Punctured porcelain discs that stay in the string undetected until an outage
- Replacement units whose coupling does not match the installed hardware
- String length that does not fit the tower window after a creepage upgrade
What Buyers Need From a Supplier
- Published creepage, spacing and coupling per type so string design can be closed on paper
- Mechanical ratings with both failing load and routine proof load stated
- Profiles matched to the actual contamination, not a generic fog disc
- Consistent supply of one design across a long route

Questions About This Application
How many units go into a string?
The count comes from your specific creepage requirement in mm per kV and the impulse withstand check. We publish creepage and withstand voltages per unit so the calculation can be completed before an enquiry is sent.
Should we specify glass or porcelain for transmission?
Both are produced here to the same electrical ratings. Glass gives visible failure and removes puncture testing; porcelain long-rods remove the puncture mode entirely. Cap and pin porcelain remains the match for existing ANSI strings.
Can one type be supplied for a whole route?
Yes, and it is usually the right approach. Tell us the route length and structure count with the enquiry so production can be scheduled against it.
Send Us the Line or Substation Details
Give us the system voltage, the loads and the site conditions and we will point to the catalogued designs that match.
