What an Artos Stenter Is

An Artos stenter is textile machinery used in fabric finishing. Stenters are essential for stretching, drying and heat setting fabrics, and the Artos brand specialised in building high-quality machines known for precision and efficiency in handling fabric.

The key functions are drying, which makes sure the fabric is evenly dried; heat setting, which stabilises synthetic fibres so they hold their shape and size; stretching and aligning, both lengthwise in the warp and across in the weft, to reach the dimensions you want; and finishing, applying coatings or dyes while the fabric is being processed.

Artos stenters are used widely in industries handling cotton, polyester, nylon and other textiles that need precise treatment. Their advanced features include energy-efficient operation, easy automation integration and high production capacity.

That range is why an Artos frame tends to stay in a mill long after it has stopped being new. It does a broad job competently, and a broad job is hard to replace with one specialised machine.

The Ageing Parts Problem

The difficulty with an Artos frame today is not the machine. It is that parts support through the original channel has become slow and expensive, and a stenter standing idle waiting on a rail part is an expensive machine to own.

Copper or PEEK Sliders on an Artos Chain

The Artos chain is offered with either a copper slider or a PEEK slider on the same chain body, and the choice is a real one rather than a sales option.

Copper takes higher load against the guide rail and is the traditional build, which suits heavy fabric at high tension. PEEK runs lighter and quieter, is self-lubricating and puts less drag on the rail, which suits lighter goods at high line speed. Mills that have worn a guide rail with copper sliders often move to PEEK at the next overhaul.

Two Pin Plate Patterns

Artos rails changed over the machine's production life, so we hold two plate patterns. The standard one is 4 x 130 x 12 mm with two 4 mm fixing holes on 76 mm centres. The second covers rails that plate does not fit.

Order by measuring, not by machine name. Hole to hole distance and overall plate length are the two numbers that decide it.

Or Convert the Rail Altogether

For a mill with one Artos frame among a park of Monforts machines, there is a third option: convert the rail. Artos rail changed to Monforts rail is one of our regular customisation jobs.

After conversion the machine takes the same plates, clips and chain as the rest of the park, and the spare parts store stops carrying a line that only one machine uses.
