What This Machine Does
The T998A is a hydraulic truck tyre changer for rims from 14 to 48 inches, built for the weight and the bead stiffness of commercial earthmover and agricultural wheels. It takes wheels up to 1600 kg, tyre diameters to 2600 mm and wheel widths to 1400 mm, so the wheels that cannot be handled on a car or light commercial machine are handled here. A 2.2 kW hydraulic pump motor supplies the clamping and bead breaking circuit and a separate 2.2 kW gearbox motor drives rotation, with 2000 kg of bead breaker force and 5265 N.m of rotation torque available at the chuck. That torque is what lets the machine turn a loaded wheel through a stiff bead instead of stalling on it. Operating control runs at 24 V, which keeps the operator away from mains voltage at the controls. Both motors are supplied at 380 V three phase 50 Hz with 220 V optional, and the machine runs from a 220 or 400 V supply at 50 or 60 Hz, single or three phase. Machine weight is approximately 758 kg and overall dimensions are approximately 2500 x 2000 mm. Working temperature range is 0 to 40 degrees C.
Why Buyers Choose This Machine
- 14 to 48 inch rim range covers truck bus earthmover and agricultural wheels on one machine
- 1600 kg maximum wheel weight means the machine is not the limit on what the shop can take in
- 2000 kg bead breaker force releases beads that have been seated and corroded in service
- 5265 N.m of rotation torque turns a loaded heavy wheel through a stiff bead without stalling
- Separate 2.2 kW hydraulic and 2.2 kW gearbox motors so clamping and rotation do not compete for power
- 24 V operating control voltage keeps mains voltage away from the operator controls
- Handles tyres to 2600 mm diameter and wheels to 1400 mm wide
Where Truck Tyre Changer T998A Earns Its Place
Problems It Solves
- Heavy truck and earthmover beads cannot be broken by hand tools or by a light machine
- Car and light commercial tyre changers stop well below 48 inch rims and 1600 kg wheels
- Low rotation torque stalls the chuck partway through a stiff bead and damages the tyre
- Levering heavy tyres by hand is slow and is where rim damage and injuries happen
- Sending large wheels out for tyre work takes the vehicle or machine out of service
- Mains-voltage operator controls on a wet workshop floor are a hazard
Who It Is For
- Truck and bus tyre service centres
- Mining quarry and construction plant workshops
- Agricultural machinery dealers and farm workshops
- Haulage fleet depots handling their own tyre work
- Garage equipment distributors supplying heavy-duty tyre bays
Application Scenarios
- Changing drive and steer tyres on trucks and buses in a commercial tyre bay
- Earthmover and loader tyre work in a mine or quarry workshop
- Agricultural tractor and trailer tyre changes on large diameter rims
- Breaking corroded beads on wheels that have been in service without being removed
- Fleet depot tyre replacement programmes on heavy vehicles
- Retreading and tyre dealer operations mounting new casings on customer rims

How It Compares With the Alternatives
| XAIMC pneumatic tilt-back post tyre changer TC665R / TC665RA | The TC665 series is for car and light commercial wheels; the T998A is hydraulic and rated to 1600 kg wheels and 48 inch rims |
|---|---|
| Manual bead breaking with levers and sledge | Hand methods on a heavy corroded bead are slow, damage rims and injure fitters; the T998A applies 2000 kg of bead breaker force in a controlled stroke |
| A lighter semi-hydraulic truck changer | Less rotation torque means the chuck stalls partway through a stiff bead; 5265 N.m carries the wheel through the whole turn |
| Subcontracting heavy tyre work | A truck or loader is out of service while its wheels are away; on-site changing keeps the machine working |
Running the Machine
Step 1
Connect the machine to the supply and confirm the hydraulic pump and gearbox motors run correctly
Step 2
Deflate the tyre completely and remove the valve core before any bead work
Step 3
Clamp the rim in the chuck and check the wheel is centred and secure before applying force
Step 4
Break both beads with the hydraulic bead breaker, working progressively around the wheel
Step 5
Lubricate the beads then demount the tyre using the mounting tool with the chuck rotating
Step 6
Mount the new tyre with the bead lubricated, keeping the lower bead in the rim drop centre
Step 7
Inflate the tyre in a safety cage or restraint to its working pressure with the valve core refitted
