What The Media Is

Zinc shot balls are made of 0# distilled electrode position zinc with state-of-the-art technology. Grain sizes range from 0.3 mm to 5.0 mm with hardness of 45 to 60 HV and 80 to 100 HV. See Casting Zinc Shot Ball.

What It Does In The Line

• Transfers the fatigue origin. From the surface to the sub-surface.
• Lowers the electrode potential and polarization current.
• Enhances corrosion resistance.

The Other Two Uses

The same media is used for shot blasting, with high obvious effect on surface preparation of die castings such as deburring, deflashing and marking of fusion casting, and as an additive in metal smelting.

Why Zinc Rather Than Alumina

Density is close to iron with low hardness, so the media does not wear the surface of metal workpieces. The flash point of zinc powder is low, which Sukie states gives higher security than alumina shot. The whitening effect on the workpiece surface is obvious.
