Working Through The Choice

  • Rule out iron pick-up. Carbon steel media leaves iron on non-ferrous surfaces, which rusts after the part leaves the line.
  • Match media colour to part colour. Copper and brass media are used for photic-tidy, aggrandizement, surface finishing and highlight colour.
  • Skip the pickling step. After stainless media the surface is bright, so no further acid treatment is needed.
  • Set the texture. Conditioned grain gives a matte finish, cast round shot gives a shiny casting.
