What is an SDNR valve and when do I need one?
Screw down non return. It throttles like a globe valve and closes against reverse flow like a check valve, so it saves a valve and a joint on fire main, ballast and bilge branches.
Gate or butterfly on a large ballast line?
A gate valve gives full bore flow with almost no pressure drop. A butterfly valve is far shorter, lighter and cheaper at the same bore. On large lines with limited space, butterfly usually wins.
Why bronze rather than steel for a seawater valve?
Copper and bronze give a longer service life against seawater in the pipe and at the shell penetration. It is a life cycle decision rather than a first cost one.
Can you supply valves with actuators fitted?
Yes. Electric, hydraulic and pneumatic actuators are fitted and tested on the valve before dispatch.
Which certificates are available for valves?
ABS, BV, LR, RINA, DNV and CCS. Name the society on your order and the certificate is applied for against that product.
