On a yacht or a patrol boat, the deck machinery is visible and the weight is felt. A painted carbon steel windlass is wrong on both counts. We build windlasses and capstans in hand polished stainless steel 316L and in aluminium alloy, and supply aluminium doors, windows and side scuttles, so the foredeck looks right and the weight stays where the naval architect put it.
